Food Waste Project

We have spent the better part of two weeks exploring how we waste food from
the farm to the table. In our first lesson we looked at how societies around the
world eat and watched a video on what happens to fruit and vegetables that don’t
make it to the market. From this information you were to identify a problem that
you wanted to investigate.

Upon identifying the problem, you were assigned groups of three. In your groups of
three you needed to come to a consensus for what problem you and your group
would investigate. To aid in focusing your research you needed to complete a
project charter document.

 10/3 Discover potential community partners
 10/7 Develop a community profile (who does solution help/how can you focus
solution)

This information (outline of your Project Charter document) can be transferred to


your Engineering Design Journal to keep all your information in one place

 Identify the problem = Statement of purpose


 Research and Brainstorming = community profile, partners, existing
programs, general research of the problem
 Design = Your wish list narrowed down to one plausible solution with your
duration, short term
 Test and Evaluate = Your presentation
 Redesign = Feedback from your presentation
 Share = Your final presentation with corrections
The presentation will be in class starting 10/14. The presentation will be created
using and sharing google slides with your group members. It should be no less than
10 slides in length. It should follow a format similar to the following

 Slide 1 – Project title


o Name of all members
o Eye catching title
o Image(s)
 Slide 2 through 4 – Slides that help identify the problem which you plan to
address
o Images to show problem
o Graphs with supporting data
o Stakeholders
o Community profile
 Slides 5 through 8 – solutions and explanation of how it fixes the problem
 Slide 9 – any special consideration (potential issues and solutions before
they are a problem)
 Slide 10 – Short- and long-term goals
 Final slide – References and acknowledgements

In total you would have completed the following for this assignment (All under the
Design and Journaling folder)

1. Food around the world worksheet – Minor grade 40 points


2. Project Charter – Minor grade 40 points
3. Food EDJ – Major grade 100 points
4. Daily feedback form (x2) – Minor Grade 10 points
5. Food google slide – Major grade 100 points
6. Presentation (w/ audience grade) – Minor grade 50 points
