The topic of 64th navamsha is very important for

any serious students of vedic astrology. It is a

sensitive area in your birth chart which can
trigger some bad events in your life, its lord is also
known as Chhidra planet and as Khara Navamsh
also. Khara was a demon in Hindu epic Ramayana
and was associated with evil. This particular name
of 64th navamsha shows how negative it can be.
This article deals with everything about 64th
navamsha.

METHOD TO CALCULATE 64TH NAVAMSHA

Since we all know how important is navamsha and
planetary movements when seen through
navamsha can reveal many things. As the name
suggests 64th navamsha is calculate from
navamsha . As per BPHS it should be calculated
from both Lagana & Moon chart whereas Jataka
Parijata recokns it from Moon only. For better
results one should reckon it from both ascendant
and Moon. One more addition can be done here,
as per K.N Rao you can calculate 64th navamsha
for each house and can know when negative
events are going to happen with significations of
that particular house.

For example if you want to calculate the 64th

navamsha for ascendant than check which sign is
rising in 4th from it. Suppose I have Pisces
ascendant and Capricorn navamsha, then for 64th
navamsha for ascendant will be 4th sign from
Capricon which is ARIES. Now sign Aries will be
64th navamsha for my ascendant and its lord
Mars will be called as Chiddra planet. Same way
you can calculate 64th navamsha for planets like
VENUS, MARS etc and when malefics transits over
their 64th navamsha then the house they rule
suffers and significations which they represents
also suffers.

APPLICATION OF 64TH NAVAMSHA

As per classics “when 64th navamsha lord is with
Satrun, Rahu , Ketu or Mars and is placed in 6th,
8th, or 12th house in the birth chart, then the
person dies a unnatural death without any blood
relatives on his side”.

This can be seen in chart of Indira Gandhi who

was killed by her own security people with no
relatives on her side.

Following rules can be applied on 64th navamsha

to:

1. Transit of malefics over 64th navamsha can give

severe negative events especially when a malefic is
posted there already.

2.A malefic placed in 64th navamsha of any planet

creates harms to signification of that planet and
the house they rule. In indira gandhi horoscope,
Ketu & Saturn are placed in 64th navamsha from
Venus and her husband died at very young age.

3.Death becomes imminent when a planet who is

by chance lord of 64th navamsha from ascendant
or moon and 22nd drekkana are same planet ,
transits a sign which don’t have any asthvarga
bindus.

Note” 22nd drekkna is also a sensitive point in

horoscope which acts samee like 64th navamsha.
Will talk on this in Drekkana chapter.

4.Native will have shot age when lord of navamsha

occupied by Moon is inimical to its 64th
navamsha.

5. Native will have medium age when lord of

navamsha occupied by Moon is neutral to its 64th
navamsha.

6. Native will have long age when lord of

navamsha occupied by Moon is friendly to its 64th
navamsha.

For example of application of 64th navamsha you

can look into horoscope of great astrologer DR
B.V Raman. He died on 20th December 1998. In
his horoscope the 64th navamsha from ascendant
is Aries which contains Saturn in it. On day of his
death Saturn was in Aries sign and in Aries
Navamsha.

Same way you can also check 64th navamsha for

your ascendant and other planets and check when
malefic are going to pass over them. Those periods
will prove bad especially slow moving malefics like
Saturn, Rahu and Ketu.

64th Navamsa Technique

Normally we are taught to believe the following

regarding Kharesh ~
 Lord of the 64th Navamsa from Lagna is Kharesh
 Lord of the 22nd Drekkana from Lagna is Kharesh.
Some texts mention calculating these points from
Moon!! Almost every book asks us to consider this
point and the Lord of this Navamsa – Kharesh to look
for bad results, but how? In order to get a clear
understanding of the subject a little primer on the
basics will be mentioned here.
For Chara Rasi (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) – the
first Navamsa will be of the same sign and then the
next sign. So the first Navamsa in Aries will be Aries,
Second Navamsa will be that of Taurus!! For Sthira
Rasi (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) – the first
Navamsa will be that of the 9th sign. For example the
first Navamsa in Taurus will be Capricorn and the
second Navamsa will be that of Aquarius. For Dwi-
Swabhav Rasi (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces)
– the first Navamsa will be that of 5th sign. For
example the first Navamsa in Gemini will be of Libra,
the second Navamsa will be that of Scorpio. The
above rules are elementary and a student of Astrology
is supposed to know them by heart.
As we all know the Zodiac starts from 0 degrees Aries,
so starting of Taurus will be 30 degrees, Gemini will
be 90 degrees and so on. Let us for example say
Saturn as of today is at 25:56:56 Cancer, it indirectly
means that Saturn is at 115:56:56 – this will be from 0
degree Aries!!! Hope the concept is clear. Do we use
Decimal degrees? Or do we use deg:min:sec??
Depends on how fast you want to do your
calculations!! How? Saturn is right now at 115.949
(note the decimal) degrees!!! Let us now convert this
Decimal degree to Deg:Min:Sec value!!! Everybody
knows that 1 Degree has 60 Minutes & One Minute has
60 Seconds!!! Next separate the degree in decimals
115.949 to 115.0 and 0.949. Now convert 0.949 to
seconds by multiplying it by 60!! We have 56.94!!!
Separate this as 56 Minutes and 0.94!! Multiply 0.94 by
60 – we have 56.4 So the Empirical Value of 115.949 is
written as 115:56:56 – fair enough? Why have I
stressed this point? It is easier to use decimal
degrees than conventional deg:min:sec values. This is
greatly helpful when you are calculating Kendra
positions from a planet and its Trinal positions.
Kendra positions will be 0, 90, 180 and 270 degrees!!
Trinal positions will be 0, 120 and 240 degrees. As you
can see it is much easier to use Decimals!!! One of the
software’s Astrolog gives you decimal degrees, hence
my favorite. You will find the download link in
appropriate topic on the community. Navamsa
divisions in a house – We all know Navamsa is 1/9th
division of a house, so each division is 3deg and 20
sec of an arc!! Converted this to decimal each division
is 3.3333 degrees!! How to calculate the 64th
Navamsa? Different books and authors give different
methods of calculating this point; however we will
concentrate on the method used for current use. The
method described is totally radical and taken from
Nadi Shastra’s, so DO NOT CONFUSE THIS METHOD
FROM WHAT IS GIVEN BY SOFTWARES!!!
The Rule is ~ 64th Navamsa of a planet is the 8th
house from that planet in Rasi Chart and its Navamsa
position would be the 4th house from that planet’s
Natal Navamsa (D9) position. Sounds confusing??
Allow me to explain step by step by taking an example
horoscope.

A) LAGNA ~

Rasi Chart – Lagna is Aquarius – Find the 8th house

from this spot – It is Virgo!! ------- a Navamsa Chart –
Locate the Lagna – it is Gemini – Find the fourth
house from this spot!! It is Virgo!! ----- b Applying the
64th Navamsa rule we get the following ~ Lagna’s 64th
Navamsa Position will be in Virgo (a) and in Virgo
Navamsa (b)!!!
Virgo Navamsa in Virgo is the last Navamsa!!! Please
refer rule for Navamsa given above. The degrees will
be 26.6666 to 30.0000 (Decimal) or conventional
29:56:40 to 30:00:00
All this is in the Rasi Chart!!
B) LET US CALCULATE FOR RAHU

Rasi Chart – Rahu is in Sagittarius – 8th from Sagi is

Cancer.
Navamsa Chart – Rahu is in Leo, 4th house from
Taurus is Scorpio
Apply Rule – 64th Navamsa position of Rahu will be in
Cancer and in Scorpio Navamsa – fair enough?? The
relevant degrees will be 96.6666 to 99.9999 Decimals!!!

How do we use this data in predictions?

Coming to the Natal chart itself, we find that Mercury
and Venus are in the 64th Navamsa area of Rahu – see
calculations!! So the event was waiting to happen!!!
Venus being the Sthir karka for spouse and Mercury is
the Sthir Karka for friends and relatives. So the
spouse was supposed to cheat on the native!!
This can be also confirmed from UL in the chart, UL is
in Scorpio while Rahu is in Sagittarius. Rahu’s Drishti
on UL is a sign of cheating in relations.
Coming on the event date – both Sun and Saturn are
in Cancer, with Sun at 7:23:54, which is in the same
quarter as the 64th Navamsa for Rahu calculated
earlier. Sun is also the Lord of the 7th house!!!
Easy deduction? The day was destined to be a
horrible surprise for the native – he came home to see
his wife with some other person!!!
I will leave it upon the student to calculate 64th
Navamsa degrees for each planetary body and
confirm why this event happened on that particular
day??? Sun crosses this point every year,
remember??
Conclusion
Bottom line is calculating 64th Navamsa positions of
each planet in a horoscope. Note down the degrees.
Next look up at transit position of planets!!! See if any
transit planet is in the 8th position from a planet in the
Rasi Chart. The event will happen when the Transit
planet will cross the 64th Navamsa degrees!!! Please
note we did not use ANY DASA system!!! Now sit back
and relax, take a good look at your horoscope and
find out event dates!!! Next calculate the Kendra and
Trinal Positions from 64th Navamsa degrees!!! Some
events take place within this frame work too. In my
own humble experience of 8 years using this
technique I have predicted death, rape, marriage,
awards, rewards and many other events!!! I will now
leave it to the student to figure it out for him/her.

This technique is taken from “Predicting Through Navamsa and

Nadi Astrology” by Sri CS Patel.

Sri CS Patel observes that whenever a slow Moving Graha Shani,

Guru, Rahu and Ketu transits through the 64th Navamsa from a
natal slow moving planet, there is a significant event in the
native’s life, good or bad. The transit through the 64th Navamsa
from natal fast moving planets such as Mangal, Surya, Shukra,
Budha and Chandra, there is some event but of lesser
significance.

In my observation, Mangal should be kept in the category of slow

moving planets as its orbit is outside of the Earth’s orbit in the
Solar system. Only Surya, the inner planets Budha and Shukra as
well as Chandra should be considered as fast moving planets.

I have also observed that the Transit of Slow moving planets

through the 64th Navamsa of the House Cusps also results in
significant events pertaining to the House. For instance, if
Malefics such as Shani, Rahu or Ketu transits the 64th Navamsa of
the 9th house cusp, there can be danger to the father, that from
4th house cusp can indicate danger to mother, that from the 8th
house cusp can indicate danger or a grave calamity to the person.
Classics such as Phaladeepika and Jataka Parijata advises using
the 22nd Drekkana and 64th Navamsa from all the Bhavas for
determining danger and misfortune.

How to identify the 64th Navamsa

The 64th Navamsa of any Graha, or house cusp can be known in
the following manner.

1. In the Rasi chart, it will invariably fall in the 8th house from the
Graha or the Bhava.
2. In the Navamsa chart, it will invariably fall in the 4th house
from teh Graha or the Bhava cusp.

The Bhava cusp will always fall in Kendra from Navamsa Lagna, in
the equal house system. This is as follows:

1. 1–5–9 cusps: In the Navamsa Lagna

2. 2–6–10 cusps: In the 10th from the Navamsa Lagna
3. 3–7–11 cusps: In the 7th from the Navamsa Lagna
4. 4–8–12 cusps: In the 4th from the Navamsa Lagna
The 64th Navamsa (from Janma Lagna) is nothing but the cusp of
the 8th house in the Navamsa chart, hence will always fall in the
4th house from the Navamsa Lagna. Similarly, the 64th Navamsa
(from Janma Rasi) falls in the 4th house from Navamsa Chandra.

Nakshatra Transits in 1994
The Natives father was diagnosed having Cancer in
October of 1993 but the native was informed about
this only in Jan 1994. He celebrated his father’s
birthday on 6th February, wishing for good health
and returned back for his Engineering studies to
his college. However, he received a call on 17th
February evening that something serious has
happened. When he rushed back to the place
where his father was treated, he could not even see
the last sight of his father, as his body was
cremated. This was the biggest shock in the
native’s life, too unbearable.

During this time, we note that Shani was transiting

Aquarius, the 8th house from Shukra and the natal
Randhra Bhava. In the Navamsa we see that
Shukra occupies Dhanu, while the transit Shani
was also in Dhanu Navamsa, on top of Shukra.
This indicates that Shani had the ability to impact
Shukra, although it was not in the 64th Navamsa
from Shukra. From the 9th house and Karaka
Surya, Shukra was the 3rd and 10th lord and
occupied the 12th house from them. Graha in the
12th house or the 12th lord have the power to kill.
When Shani transited the 8th from the Shukra and
on the Navamsa sign housing Shukra, this
happened.

Additionally, Shani was transiting the Rasi that is

identical with the Trine from Surya and the 9th
lord. This also indicates danger to father’s life as
per Chandra Kala Nadi.

Upon closer examination we find that, 8th house

cusp is in 4th house from Navamsa Lagna. The 4th
from there indicate the 64th Navamsa from the
8th house cusp. Malefic transits in the 64th
Navamsa from the 8th house indicate grave
misfortune and even danger to the native’s life.
Shani was transiting the 64th Navamsa from the
8th house, indicating grave misfortune to the
native.

During the same time, Rahu was transiting the 8th

house in the Rasi chart in Karka, aspecting Karaka
Surya and the 9th Lord in Simha using its 2nd
aspect (12th aspect in reverse). In the Navamsa, it
was transiting Simha, influencing the the grahas
occupying Simha in the Rasi chart and Navamsa
Chart. We observe that in the Rasi chart, Simha is
the 9th house and contain the 9th lord Surya and
10th lord (2nd lord from Surya), indicating danger
to father’s life. The affliction to Surya and 9th lord
in Rasi and Navamsa causes grave danger to the
father’s life.

Future prediction
Now that Guru is going to transit Kanya in August 2016.
We note that Kanya is 8th house from Natal Guru. In the
Navamsa, since Guru is occupying Mesha, the 64th
Navamsa is in 4th house from Mesha, i.e., Karka. Thus
when Guru transits through Kanya Rasi — Karka Navamsa,
it will be transiting 64th Navamsa from natal Guru. Since
Guru will be in Uccha Navamsa during this time, Guru is
the Lagna and 4th lord aspecting the 9th house, this is
going to be an eventful period in the native’s life. This will
happen between 16th November to 4th December
2016. This can give rise to a very important auspicious
event during this time.

Similarly, the 64th Navamsa of Guru can be

checked from Natal Rasi and Navamsa position of
various Bhava cusps and Grahas can be
ascertained.
