Leadership Experiences and Goals List

Experiences
Domain 1:
- I work cooperatively with my colleagues to create curriculum and design daily lesson plans, to solve
problems that arise, and to promote meaningful change within our department. For example, after working
cooperatively and creatively with another science teacher to try to fix the issues with our mandatory science
fair project, we decided together to change the project entirely for next year to create better learning
experiences for our students.
- When approached by my admin to teach three brand new preps this year, I listened to the needs being
presented, shared my needs and concerns, and felt heard and supported despite still being required to teach
three new preps.
- I continually seek new understanding of other backgrounds, ethnicities, and cultures while also trying to
uncover and change some of my biases. I do this by reading relevant books and discussing these issues with
my colleagues.
Domain 2:
- I have occasionally shared findings from research I have read when speaking with colleagues about
educational practices
- I create assessments in partnership with another science teacher at my school and we use the same tests for
our classes
- I share my assessment results with my colleague and we reflect on ways to improve student achievement.
Domain 3:
- I have requested and attended professional development aligned with NGSS
- I sometimes observe colleagues and ask reflective questions and provide feedback to help strengthen
teaching practices
- I facilitate professional learning among colleagues by suggesting workshops and articles to colleagues
Domain 4:
- I frequently reflect with colleagues about my own teaching and about their teaching and make connections
to research based strategies.
- I collaborate with other teachers to compare assessment data and improve curriculum and instruction
- I support and encourage a few newer teachers and provide advice.
Domain 5:
- I engage in reflective conversations with colleagues about assessment findings and ways to improve student
learning
- I collaborate with colleagues to create and implement assessments and analyze results
- I create rubrics and reflect on the rubrics with colleagues before using them
Domain 6:
- I read relevant books to increase my understanding of different backgrounds, cultures, ethnicities
- I engage in reflective conversations with colleagues regarding the diversity at our school and how I can
better serve in my position
- I collaborate with colleagues about the diverse needs of our students and learn how to better support them.
Domain 7:
- I engage in reflective conversations with colleagues about teaching practices and ways to use research to
improve
- I collaborate with colleagues to secure additional resources for our science department
- I advocate for professional development workshops for myself and colleagues to better serve our students

Goals

1. I will develop my leadership in teaching and learning.

a. Goal: Encourage student engagement in science and engineering practices to explain
phenomena or design solutions to problems.
b. Short term Objective: Develop and implement at least one Anchoring Phenomenon for a
unit per semester.
i. Rationale: Modeling anchoring phenomena is a key sense-making tool for
scientists and enhances student learning.
ii. NBPTS Proposition: Proposition 2: Teachers know the subjects they teach and
how to teach those subjects to students.
iii. TLMD Domain 4. Facilitating Improvements in Instruction and Student
Learning.
c. Long term Objective: Develop and implement at least one PBL unit per semester in one
course.
i. Rationale: Implementing PBL units has been shown to increase student
achievement and decrease the learning gap.
ii. NBPTS Proposition: Proposition 2: Teachers know the subjects they teach and
how to teach those subjects to students.
iii. TLMD Domain 4. Facilitating Improvements in Instruction and Student
Learning.
2. I will develop my leadership in curriculum.
a. Goal: Ensure the development and/or selection of curriculum that is pedagogically
appropriate and encompasses strategies for building conceptual understanding.
b. Objective: I will attend an AP Summer Institute for AP Biology this summer.
i. Rationale: I will be teaching AP Biology for the first time next year. AP Summer
Institute is recommended for new and returning AP teachers to enhance their
curriculum and increase achievement (Godfrey, Kelly, 2009. Advanced
Placement Summer Institute: A Survey of Florida AP Teachers.

ii. NBPTS Proposition: Proposition 2: Teachers know the subjects they teach and
how to teach those subjects to students.
iii. TLMD Domain 3. Promoting Professional Learning for Continuous
Improvement.
c. Long Term Objective: I will seek out and attend professional development that involves
PBL.
i. Rationale: Implementing PBL units has been shown to increase student
achievement and decrease the learning gap.
ii. NBPTS Proposition: Proposition 2: Teachers know the subjects they teach and
how to teach those subjects to students.
iii. TLMD Domain 3. Promoting Professional Learning for Continuous
Improvement.
3. I will develop my leadership in assessments.
a. Goal: Use a variety of qualitative and quantitative assessments for school
improvement, instructional improvement, and enhanced student learning.
b. Short Term Objective: I will link learning objectives with my assessments and more
intentionally construct assessments around those learning objectives.
i. Rationale: Our school implements Standards Based Grading and I want to be
more intentional with my assessments.
ii. NBPTS Proposition 3: Teachers are responsible for managing and
monitoring student learning.
iii. TLMD: Domain 5. Promoting the Use of Assessments and Data for
School and District Improvement.
iv. Teacher Inquiry: I will develop my skills in aligning assessments with
clear objectives through my teacher inquiry.
c. Long Term Objective: I will create a variety of assessments for each unit to assess
student understanding in multiple ways, so that there are multiple methods to show
mastery.
i. Rationale: Supporting the needs of diverse learners, in alignment with NSTA.
ii. NBPTS Proposition 3: Teachers are responsible for managing and
monitoring student learning.
iii. TLMD: Domain 5. Promoting the Use of Assessments and Data for
School and District Improvement.
