TEAM TEACHING STAGE

Task Nº1: Collaboration activities

When I started this team teaching stage I wondered if it would be like the last
time I was in this school in 2007 where I participated in every activity the
school had or the teacher would limit the things I could do inside the school
because this was not a VISE practice it was my professional teaching practice.
The first time someone asked for my help was during the first day of the team
teaching. After the teacher called the roll and introduced the activities for that
lesson I was asked for help by a student, she wanted to know the meaning of
some vocabulary words. 15 minutes passed before that happened. Before this,
all the students were asking me over and over what was my name and from
what university I came from.
But we did not spend too much time inside the classroom and the teacher took
the whole class and I to the Enlaces room to reinforce the lesson’s content. The
students were given directions about the use of the computers by the teacher
and they started their activities. Then again the teacher told me I was free to
answer all the questions and doubts of the students. They are really into the
fact of using the computers for learning activities and they know that if they
are caught using the computers for entertainment, they will get a negative
endorsement on the Class Book. Overall, the environment inside the classroom
during the team teaching stage was very positive and the teacher and the
students accepted my presence inside the classroom participating with them.

Task 2: Lesson Planning

The information to plan the lessons for my students was given by my guide
teacher. She offered me the student’s book, the teacher’s book and her lesson
plan model so that I could create activities based on the units of their books.
My guide teacher helped me with some tips for planning. She also tried to
guide me because planning is a MUST in our school. I had to present the
monthly lesson plans in advance so that she and the PTU Chief can check them
and give me the proper feedback. The hardest part was to come up with the
proper timing for each activity. It is a lot of work, but it has loads of benefits
too.
It took me about 3 hours to prepare learning material for my first class. It is not
taking me that amount of time anymore! I have already learnt how to prepare
my classes, and I must say I am really happy with the results.
