Executive Summary:
This how-to-guide is to illustrate the steps needed for the Top Down
Allocation functionality in BPC 10.0 NW (same steps may work in MS
version as well). We will use the front end web user interface, Logic
Script and the Data Manager in EPM Office Add-in Excel.
After the successful run of the allocation, the plan data will have
the following allocation...

In general, allocation means to distribute according to plan.

Step 1 Log into Web Admin Client using Primary Admin account (or
any account with necessary task profile access that can create
Model/Dimension and other building blocks)
Step 5 Enter the name of the Dimension ID and Description. Select the
appropriate Dimension type as given below.
Step 8 Create the rest of the needed Dimensions as given in the above
steps. The structure of each Dimension is given in the appendix.
Step 1 Log into Web Admin Client using Primary Admin account (or
any account with necessary task profile access that can create
Model/Dimension and other building blocks)
Step 6 Select the model type and the corresponding rate model as
given below.
Step 8 In the following screen, make sure all your dimensions are
selected as follows. You may secure the dimensions by checking the
‘secured’ button. It is optional. Also note that if a Dimension is secured, it
should be activated for write mode in the security tab on the Administration
page.
Step 9 The next screen may confirm that the Data Manager Package is
copied
Step 11 you get the following screen once the model was created
successfully. Close the screen.
2. There will be a script folder for each model on this page. Click the
one for the model you have just created.
3. There will be always DEFAULT script logic for each model and it
will have a comment line. To create a new script logic, click ‘New’
6. Complete entering the code, and then validate the code for any errors.
The following screen shows that the code is validated and ready for
execution.
1. Go to the Start page of the Planning and Consolidation main page and
click the EPM Office Add-in Excel at the right side under the Launch
tab.
3. Double click the model that you have created for the allocation
(Click on ALLOC_ADMIN_EXPENSES).
6. Click and drag the TIME DIM and drop it in the column Axis
Dimensions box. Then click the TIME DIM to pick the year and
month as follows. Then click OK
7. Click and drag the CATEGORY DIM to row axis box. Then click
the category DIM to assign the values as follows.
8. Click and drag the AUDIT_TRAIL DIM, and drop it in the page
axis box. Then click the dimension and pick the following member
(Input or any base member).
9. Click and drag the ACCOUNT DIM and drop it in the row axis
box. Then click the DIM to pick the following member.
10.Click and drag the ENTITY DIM and drop it in the row axis box.
Then click the DIM to pick the following member. Then Click Ok.
11.Click and drag the CURRENCY DIM and drop it in the row axis
box. Then click the DIM to pick the following member. Then click
Ok.
12.After the selection of all Dimensions, the final EPM - Report Editor
looks as follows.
14.Make sure the save Data button (right below the EPM tab) is
activated. If not, check the “Use as input Form” under options/
sheet options as in the following screen. Then press Okay.
16.Select “Save and Refresh Work Sheet data” option under the “save
data” at the top ribbon.
17.The above action will update the model and the screen will look as
follows.
18. Now let’s plan on allocating $130,000 to the North Americas region.
Note that we have assigned NAP=130000 in the logic script as
follows.
21. Click the Financial process on the left tab in the screen given
below.
23. In the following screen press ‘Finish’ after selecting the option
“Run”
25. Then press “View Status” button to view the status of the
package.
26. Double click the package that was submitted few minutes ago
(the first one in this list). The log will have the content as below.
27.Click the line right below the Formula log on the left tab. The log
file will look like as follows.
28.Now the package ran successfully. We will verify the data on the
input schedule. Press close 3 times to close all the open windows in
the package screen. This should return back to the input schedule as
given below.
29.Now press the refresh button under the EPM tab. The screen should
have the following numbers. So $130,000 is allocated to the entities
defined under “North Americas” based on the percentages defined
in the ENTITY DIM and they are CANADA (15%), Mexico (5%),
USA (70%) and rest of North Americas (10%).
Note: We are intentionally hard coding the dimension members in the logic. Kindly call us
for dynamic substitutions and also complex allocation such as table driven.
