METHODS OF TEACHING AND THE ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF THE

SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL ACCOUNTING STUDENTS

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Teaching a subject such as Accounting was never easy. It is a profession with

great ability to be able to share knowledge with students. Being an accounting student as

well, needs a lot of courage and determination. To be able to pass, one must be determined

and motivated enough to surpass all things. To learn accounting is to learn it

wholeheartedly, must be given time and student should be passionate to it. Learning the

terms and accounting process, enable the student to learn it quickly. There are two different

practices of methods of teaching. First, teacher-centered. Under this method, it’s more like

a lecture based teaching. The teacher does all the talking without minding whether the

students are catching up or not. Whereas, student-centered is learning revolves around the

students. There is interaction between the students and the teacher. It is more on activity

based approach rather than pure lecture. Students’ academic performance is an important

factor and raise issue about the possibility that lead to studies achievement. Styles of

teaching have been important in this aspect.

As a result, the researchers continuously seek for solutions on how does methods

of teaching affect the academic performance of the accounting students. It is too understand

more about the extent of practice of the methods of teaching and the level of the academic

performance. Different styles of teaching plays a vital role and essential to study because
it affects students’ performance. Garkaz, Banimahd & Esmeli (2011) conducted a research

of factors affect accounting studies performance
