History of Lim-ao National High School
Lim-ao National High School was a dream turned into reality by the late Mayor of the Municipality
of Kananga-- Mayor Eddie Napari. He took pity on countless secondary age youth in the barangay
who after elementary years got married because they could not proceed to high school due to
distance.

With all-out support of the Barangay Council lead by then by then Brgy. Chairman Efren R.
Florentino, the council donated a one parcel of land for the secondary school. The area was a
marshy place. But with the assistance of PNOC-EDC, a state owned and controlled corporation
who dumped thousands of truckloads of earth soil to make the area suitable for building
classrooms.

Hon. Victoria L. Locsin, the congresswoman of the 4th district of Leyte, filled a bill in
congressseeking to create a national high school at Brgy. Lim-ao with the request/resolutions of
both Local Government Unit and Brgy. Council, the bill was passed and signed into law by then
President Joseph E. Estrada on August 22, 2000. Republic Act no. 8823 "otherwise known as an
act establishing a national high school to be established at Brgy. Lim-ao, Municipality of Kananga,
Province of Leyte was implemented year after, due to the political crisis at Manila brought about
by EDSA DOS.

June 8, 2002, marked the start of the operation of Lim-ao National High School with average
pioneering first year students ( average age 16) receiving instruction from three pioneering teachers
namely: Christopher Elbiña-- Teacher In-charge, teaching Science and Mathematics; Ma. Myla A.
Poliquit-- Language, and Shem G. Solano teaching MAKABAYAN subjects. The students were
housed at the old Day Care center and a multi-purpose room as their irst classroom. Then the
Teachers Honorarium was shouldered by the Brgy. LGU and donation from Brgy. Councilors
with a period of six months which later the Municipal LGU supported part of the honorarium
through SEF.

Out of this humble beginning with the realization of dreams by the pioneering stakeholders,
hundreds of students who have passed the portals of this institution become highly succesful
professionals in the field of education, engineering, health services, agriculture and other callings
in life.

Republic 6655, otherwise known as "Free Public Secondary Education Act of 1988", was enacted
and mandates free public secondary education. As a public secondary educational institution, the
Lim-ao National High School falls under the jurisdiction of Department of Education, Division of
Leyte in Region VIII.

To date, Lim-ao National High School has the following initiated interventions: Adopt-A-School
Program, Scholarship, Home Visitation, EDC Scholarship, Gulayan sa Paaralan, Club
Organizations, Remedial Reading Program and School - to - School Partnership Program.

It has the following instructional classrooms: 1 Home Economics Laboratory, Cookery
Laboratory, Library, Principals Office, SBM-PASBE Room, and 21 comfort Rooms, a total of 21
instructional and non-instructional rooms.

As the Department of Education implemented the K-12 Program as a new system of education,
the school offers senior high school with Technical-Vocational Livelihood offering Agri-Fishery
Arts (Horticulture NC II ) and Home Economics ( Cookery NC II, Food and Beverage NC II,
Bread & Pastry NC II).

Lim-ao National High School continues to strive for excellence and higher quality of education. It
collaborates and works hand-in-handwith the PTA, Brgy. LGU and other stakeholders in
implementing various DepEd programs and projects.

Through the parents' active involvement, problems of the school are being identified and solutions
are discussed to address the needs in order to improve student performance and learning outcomes.
As a result of this collaboration, the Lim-ao National High School achieved a very satisfactory
result in line with the School Based Management Program of the Department of Education in the
are evaluation.

Work Experience

Generally, work immersion is advantageous to students who want to experience and

learn more about the life of being employed. It prepares them to the bigger world after
graduation and makes them equipped with relevant skills. It also teaches a lot of valuable
lessons that they cannot get inside the classroom.

During my work experience at Canaan Hill Farms, I was fortunate enough to

have experienced first hand and learned many different sides of what goes into a task,
the general process of how a task is initially planned, developed and completed; as well
as how much work and detail goes into every stage. Another valuable lesson I have
learned during these 10 days, were the many different types of work a farmer has to
perform, which in turn, have provided me with more insight into the different types of
roles and responsibilities that I could perform, as an Agriculturist. During the first week
of work, I was overwhelmed by the work and the responsibilities that were placed on
me, but with the help of the workers and supervisor in the farm, who have had years of
experience in the farm, I felt more confident and supported. By observing and learning
from them, I managed to pick up tips and learned different types of skills, from learning
to communicate and deal with other guests..

Working on the farm for the first few week was enjoyable for me as it did make
me use all the techniques I learned at my Alma Mater in every aspect of Agri-crop
Production. I realise this might not be the same everywhere and usually every farmer
has their own strategy on how they will take care of their crops but I was happy that I
had the opportunity to use all of my theoretical knowledge and applied them to real‐life
situations.21

Reflection after the Work Immersion

The transition from being a student to being part of the working class could be
a challenge to a students. This is why on-the-job trainings are provided by educational
institutions to help prepare students explore their chosen careers and acquire new
skills. Immersions prepare students for the real world by training them how to work in
a company and eventually excel in a specific career.

During our work immersion in Canaan Hill Farms, I have learned a lot. I
gained various benefits that could be valuable for my future profession. It improves
and builds new skills. Immersions helps gain new skill sets and improve my existing
capabilities. It is also through immersion why I get to discover and jumpstart my
professional growth.Through immersion, we also became a good team players. I also
became financially aware at an early age. By being exposed to the daily operations of
a real work environment, I learn how to think like an adult, manage my finances
effectively, and be exposed to acquiring other related skills such as budgeting and
marketing. Most of all, I became goal-driven. Immersion trains me how to achieve my
goals by giving me an opportunity to work with and be supervised by professionals
and highly creative people. These people inspires me to discover my capabilities.

Overall, my work experience at Canaan Hill Farms was positive. I was very
happy with the amount of things that I have learned and experienced in the 10 days of
work as a trainee. I am now so happy, and proud that I have completed my immersion
and I can now share my knowledge that I gain to other people because of this
experience.
