Working on the farm for the first few week was enjoyable for me as it did make
me use all the techniques I learned at my Alma Mater in every aspect of Agri-crop
Production. I realise this might not be the same everywhere and usually every farmer
has their own strategy on how they will take care of their crops but I was happy that I
had the opportunity to use all of my theoretical knowledge and applied them to real‐life
situations.21
The transition from being a student to being part of the working class could be
a challenge to a students. This is why on-the-job trainings are provided by educational
institutions to help prepare students explore their chosen careers and acquire new
skills. Immersions prepare students for the real world by training them how to work in
a company and eventually excel in a specific career.
During our work immersion in Canaan Hill Farms, I have learned a lot. I
gained various benefits that could be valuable for my future profession. It improves
and builds new skills. Immersions helps gain new skill sets and improve my existing
capabilities. It is also through immersion why I get to discover and jumpstart my
professional growth.Through immersion, we also became a good team players. I also
became financially aware at an early age. By being exposed to the daily operations of
a real work environment, I learn how to think like an adult, manage my finances
effectively, and be exposed to acquiring other related skills such as budgeting and
marketing. Most of all, I became goal-driven. Immersion trains me how to achieve my
goals by giving me an opportunity to work with and be supervised by professionals
and highly creative people. These people inspires me to discover my capabilities.
Overall, my work experience at Canaan Hill Farms was positive. I was very
happy with the amount of things that I have learned and experienced in the 10 days of
work as a trainee. I am now so happy, and proud that I have completed my immersion
and I can now share my knowledge that I gain to other people because of this
experience.
