SMART GOALS

Goal #1: Create a unit test for percent, ratios and rates unit that has high validity, high reliability
and high fairness.

S- I will make sure that my curriculum, instruction and assessment all have the same intended
learner outcomes so that my validity of the test will be high. As for reliability and fairness I will
create the assessment so that there is no cultural biases, the reading level is at an appropriate
reading level for all students, and that directions are clear and sufficient.
M- This will be a measurable goal because when creating the assessment I can look for specific
instances that can increase validity, reliability and fairness within my unit test. This can be
tracked because if validity, reliability, and fairness are high within the questions developed then
the students should understand the questions being asked as well as the knowledge and skills
associated with those questions.
A- This can be attainable by having each lesson plan clearly align with the intended learner
outcomes, which can help increase the validity within the unit test. Validity can also be
enhanced by solving the problem in multiple ways. As for the creation of the unit test I will have
to be vigilant to align the intended learner outcomes from the curriculum and instruction to my
assessment. Then for reliability and fairness make sure that there is no cultural biases, the
reading level is appropriate and that the directions are clear and sufficient.
R- I think that this goal is realistic because all teachers want to make their assessments valid,
reliable and fair. After teaching these students I will know their backgrounds more which will
help with the reliability and fairness of creating this assessment.
T- This goal will be completed at the end of the unit of percent, ratios and rates. Therefore this
will be hopefully around april 7th, or 8th. If the unit is not complete by the time my practicum is
over then I will develop the unit test and have my TA administer it.

Goal #2: To be flexible with regards to scheduling lessons.

S- I would like to be flexible with my lesson planning for my 20-2 class because there are some
attendance issues present with this particular class. This makes it difficult to plan a lesson for
these students and to be able to catch up to the rest of the class afterwards. This goal will be on
going for the duration that I am at this school.
M- The way that I will track this goal is with recording which students are present for each day,
and which in turn demand that I create new lesson plans that help these students catch up to
the same topic in the curriculum that the rest of the class is at.
A- This particular goal can be attainable, although as discovered in a survey in our Ed psyc
course this is the area of academics that I struggle the most with. This is why I think that this is a
good goal for me to have for this practicum so that I can be more adaptable.
R- This goal is realistic however it will be a challenge initially for me but hopefully it will become
easier over time to accomodate for these students.

T- As mentioned previously this will be a goal that I aim to complete for the duration of my
practicum but my hope is that I can get all of these students to the same point in the curriculum
by the end of my practicum. This will be around April 8th, that I hope to accomplish this goal.
