Outlined below are the steps that were outlined in the video lecture demonstration
which you can use yourself or with others:

Ask the individual to consider a relationship that they would like to make some
improvements in and recall a relevant interaction with this other person.

'Close your eyes and focus in on this relationship that isn't currently quite where you
would like it to be. Think back to a conversation or an interaction that you've had with
this other person that you can recall didn't work out the way that you wanted it to.
Focus in on this memory and how you're feeling'.

Now explain that you're going to take the individual through a series of questions:

'I'm now going to ask you a sequence of questions. Keep your answers as simplistic as
possible, just using a few words that really mean something to you. If I feel we need to
unpack or explore something, I'll ask you a few more questions - is that ok? 

FIRST POSITION

1) How are you behaving right now?

2) How are you feeling right now?

3) What do you believe or perceive about this situation?

4) What is important to you here?

5) What is there for you to learn here?

6) How has your perception changed about this event?

SECOND POSITION

Now ask the individual to dissociate from themselves and step into second position:

'I'm now going to ask you, inside of your mind's eye, to take a step back and out of
yourself, walk around behind this other person and step into this other person's
experience. So you are now this other person looking at you'.

1) From this new perspective, how is it that you're behaving here?

2) How are you feeling right now?

3) What do you believe or perceive about this situation?

4) What is important to you here?

5) What is there for you to learn here?

6) How has your perception changed about this event?

THIRD POSITION

Now ask the individual to step out of second position and into third position:

'I'm now going to ask you to step back out of this other person, walk 20 paces to your
left and assume a 'fly on the wall' position, observing these two people having this
conversation/interaction. You're now in a place of complete objectivity and just
observing what's going on'.

1) From this new perspective, how is it that these two people are behaving?

2) How is it that they're both feeling?

3) From where you're standing right now, how do you perceive this situation? How do
you see the entire situation?

4) What do you feel might be important to them both here?

5) What do you see from this position that these two people can learn from this
situation?

6) So from this third position, how has your perception now shifted?

Now ask the individual to step out of third position and back into first position.

'So from this position, I'm now going to ask you to walk 20 paces round behind yourself,
and step back into yourself'.

Now ask the individual to open their eyes and discuss how they've found the
experience and what key learnings/insights they've had.
