2.1 Choice of Exhaust Gas Economiser
Ulmatec Pyro exhaust gas economiser is delivered in various sizes and capacities according to the heat
requirement available waste heat. The choice of the exhaust economiser is based on engine rating, exhaust gas
temperatures, exhaust gas flow, exhaust pipe diameter and the heating capacity. Important control parameter is
pressure drop and the lower exhaust gas temperature limit to avoid acid formation and the resultant corrosion
problems. Each project is calculated with all main parameters at various engine load levels.

2.2 Design
Ulmatec Pyro exhaust gas economiser is welded gas tube hot water boiler designed for marine use.
The water temperature is automatically controlled by a specially designed valve which diverts eshaust gas flow
through a bypass when the water temperature reaches the temperature selected by the operator. By using a

This design is also used to control the pressure drop across the exhaust gas economiser. The exhaust economiser
is delivered with control system, sensors and safety function. In case of a system failure the exhaust gas
economiser will automatically go to a bypass position. The exhaust gas economiser are insulated with 50mm
mineral wool and covered with galvanized sheet steel.
