Subject : HYDRAULIC LASH ADJUSTER INSPECTION AND INSTALLATION

METHOD
This Service Bulletin provides you some tips on how to inspect and install the hydraulic lash adjuster
used on 2AD-FHV and 2AD-FTV engines.
CONSTRUCTION OF THE HYDRAULIC LASH ADJUSTER:

Plunger
Low Pressure Chamber

Oil Passage

Check Ball

High Pressure Chamber

Plunger Spring

HINT:
At the removal of the hydraulic lash adjuster, the oil stored in the high-pressure chamber should be
drained and then refilled.
IMPORTANT SERVICE POINTS:
1. When hydraulic lash adjuster is removed and installed, or when parts associated to the lash adjuster
are replaced and/or disassembled, change the engine oil inside the hydraulic lash adjuster to clean
engine oil. When the hydraulic lash adjuster is replaced, add clean engine oil.
2. Keep the hydraulic lash adjuster free from dirt and foreign objects.
3. Only use clean engine oil when engine oil is charged.
4. Do not disassemble the hydraulic lash adjuster.

ENGINE
HYDRAULIC LASH ADJUSTER
INSPECTION
1. REPLACE ENGINE OIL
(a) Insert SST into the plunger of the hydraulic lash
adjuster and push down the check ball. Make sure
SST the needle of SST goes to the center of the plunger
and reaches the check ball.

(b) Immerse hydraulic lash adjuster in clean engine

oil, then compress and release the plunger with
SST 5 to 6 times.

2. INSPECT HYDRAULIC LASH ADJUSTER

(a) Press the plunger with 2 fingers and check the
blockage of plunger.
If plunger can still be compressed after pressing it
3 times, replace the hydraulic lash adjuster with a
new one.
