calls us, as well, to a
forty-day “desert
experience,” a time to
peacefully and quietly
renew and re-create our
relationship with God,
that God might become the center of our lives in every
season.
This First Sunday of Lent confronts us with choices:
personal profit, comfort and glory or the life of
God. The season of Lent calls us to embrace God’s
Spirit of truth that we may make the choices demanded
by our complicated and complex world with courage,
insight and faith.
Lent is the season for meaningful fasting: fasting not
just for the sake “of giving something up” but fasting
from whatever derails or hampers our relationship with
God and alienates us from others, fasting from everyday
distractions in order to put our time and energy into the
things of God.

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR SYRIAN
FAMILY ON OBTAINING THEIR CANADIAN
CITIZENSHIP
On February 6 2016, Shadi Jadallah, his wife Rita along
with their children Souheill and Sentia arrived in
Canada. Our parish community had been eagerly
awaiting their arrival, ready to welcome them to our
community. A very dedicated group of volunteers from
our parish formed a committee to oversee and help the
Syrian family transition to their new life in Canada.
What began with a long and difficult journey four years

VOLUNTEER DRIVERS
It’s that time of year when we call out for
volunteer drivers for the Spanish Ministry
on Sundays. If you’re interested in helping
out with this important outreach for our migrant
workers, please contact Frances at 905-562-5475 or you
may call or email the parish office. Even if you can
only drive one way once a month, your time and
commitment will be much appreciated.
WORLD DAY OF PRAYER
This year, St. Helen’s will be hosting
the World Day of Prayer service on
March 6th at 2:00 p.m. The Annual
World Day of Prayer originated in 1892
and now over 170 countries participate. It is led by
Christian women of all denominations who welcome
you to pursue justice, peace and reconciliation by
standing together in prayer and action. This year’s
theme: “Rise! Take Your Mat and Walk” focuses on
the women of Zimbabwe. Come join us in prayer and
fellowship uniting our hope, faith, justice, solidarity and
respect. Refreshments to follow. All are welcome to
attend.
