misfire that exploded. Injured: 2; Joseph Lacey thought he will lose sight in both eyes & Julius Sabo

Mineville, hit by huge chunk of falling rock, 3 others uninjured.

6/1/1956 - Arthur Worthington Brace - age 47, Republic Steel, Clonan Shaft of Old Bed Mine in
Mineville, struck by a steel cable that losened due to tension released from a hook that broke. Joseph
Glebus & Thomas Pratt uninjured.

9/17/1957 - Harold "Joe" E. Brooks - age 43, Bulldozer Operator, Republic Steel, occupied in grading
work between rail lines adjacent to the Port Henry dock, failed brake rolled into Lake Champlain.

7/1867 - William Crowley - Laborer, Cheever Ore Bed, premature discharge of a charge, the drill striking
his leg just above the knee.

11/14/1868 - Edward Mullin - Cheever Ore Bed Co., Cheever ore bed in Moriah, charging a hole when
the charge prematurely exploded, head completely scalded and both hands amputated.

1870's - Miley Finnegan - Cheever Ore Bed, blown up and badly disfigured.

4/1874 - William Tinney - Mine in Cheever, premature discharge of a blast when he was tamping the
hole was considerably burned about the hands, another laborer hit on sleeve by flying tampting bar,
narrow escape for several.

7/27/1875 - Mike Mackey - broken leg by large piece of ore fallling from the car.

2/1880 - Patrick Hickey - Mineville Mines, seriously from explosion, critical condition recovery
improbable.
5/12/1880 - Old Bed Mine in Mineville, eighteen men buried when several tons of ore and rock fell from
roof falling over the opening of a shaft under the mine.

2/8/1889 - miner seriously injured; seven persons have been more or less injured in mines since
Thursday last.

7/25/1891 - Witherbee-Sherman Co., Bonanza Shaft in Mineville, returning to their work being lowered
into the pit when the friction band failed, men hurled. Injured: 2; James Riddle very seriously and Morris
Holcomb severly wounded about the head.

5/21-27/1905 - Unknown Italian - severly injured in Joker Mine in Mineville, chunk of ore fell on him
breaking bones and causing some internal injuries.

9/28/1905 - Unknown Poland - Joker Mine in Mineville, chunk of ore fell from roof, compound fracture
of leg and head badly cut.

11/20-22/1905 - G. Evans, new shaft near Mine 21, narrowly escapes being scalded to death in boiler
explosion.

11/25/1905 - George Chappell, Port Henry Iron Co., slightly injured while working near the crusher.

12/16/1905 - Unknown Italian - slightly injured working Mine 21 in Mineville.

4/3/1906 - Fred Mullen, Brakeman, lost three fingers while coupling cars.

1907- Unknown Miner, age 23, broken legs and back, can't walk again and spent 15 weeks at the
mineville hospital.

6/5/1907 - Unknown Polish Miner, struck on head by falling chunk of ore, is not expected to live more
than a day or two.

6/1912 - Bartholomew Gaubis, Witherbee-Sherman Co.

6/1912 - Joseph Dudiak - Port Henry Iron Co., Mine in Mineville, caught by a mine car while walking
between the mine tracks and after being carried by car some distance and fell to second level of mine
suffered injuries included having one leg amputated and crippled.

11/26/1912 - Joker Mine in Mineville - Sam Dumax lost the sight of both eyes and may be internally
injured - two foreigners also seriously hurt. Explosion dynamite misfire.

8/16/1913 - Hawkey Tait, Tunnel Mine in Mineville, arm badly cut when he fell under a mine car.

2/1914 - David Middleton, while working in one of the iron ore separators, glass eye shattered, face cut,
and jaw broken.

2/1914 - William Kelley, Tunnel Mine in Mineville, hit by chunk of ore, cut on head.

10/1922 - Frank Spring - Machine Shop in Mineville, flesh wound to the end of one finger.
1/1930 - James Brooks, Mine in Mineville, broken arm and other minor injuries.

to foot and leg.

3/1950 - William Hanmer, Republic Steel, Mineville Mines, suffered broken arm, and bad head & face
lacerations.

6/4/1953 - Fred A. Allen, age 27, Republic Steel, in Mineville, large piece of ore fell from roof off small
storage shed hitting him, head and shoulder injuries, possible skull fracture, concussions, and numerous
laceractions.
