There are many ways to capture sound. In the space below write down as many ways you can

There are two main types of microphones:

2- Condenser

When choosing the correct microphone to record with there are many factors you need to
consider.

Polar Patterns
The term polar pattern is used to describe the directionality of where the sound will be picked up
from where the mic is or direction it is facing. When you are looking at a polar pattern it represents
what the world looks like on a map from the poles. You always need to imagine looking down at
the microphone to imagine the polar pattern and the instrument is being played below you. If the
instrument is being played closer to the middle of the pattern the sound will be louder/more signal
where as if the instrument is being played to the edge of the pattern and out of the pattern it will
be dim/muffled.
