INTRODUCTION:

Supply chain management is the key to success in today’s competitive global environment
for any business organization. Supply chain strategy defines how the supply chain should
operate in order to compete. Business strategy involves leveraging the core competencies of
the organization to achieve a defined high-level goal or objective. It also includes the analytic
and decision making process surrounding what to offer, when to offer and where to offer as
a competitive plan. While the business strategy constitutes the overall direction that an
organization wishes to go, the supply chain strategy constitutes the actual operation of that
organization and the extended supply chain to be meet a specific chain objective. Supply
chain strategy also focuses on driving down operational cost and maximizing efficiencies.
Most companies develop the supply chain strategy after the business strategy has been
defined. While this approach can deliver some value, it is not support the infusion into the
business strategy development of very powerful supply chain model options, which could
significantly improve the business strategy.

INTRODUCTION ABOUT INDUSTRY

India is the second largest food producer in the world together with China, and has the potential
to be the largest producer of food and agricultural products. In this sense, the country is capable
of having a large production base for a multiplicity of raw materials that cover food crops, cash
crops and fiber due to its different agro climatic situation. India is the world's largest
manufacturer of cereals and milk, the second largest manufacturer of rice, wheat, fruit and
vegetables, the third largest producer of cotton and the seventh largest producer of fish. In
addition, India has the largest number of plants accepted by the United States Food and Drug
Administration (FDA) outside the United States. The Indian organization is regarded as an
growth arm of agriculture the progress of food industry can be help and make agriculture more
well-paid and create employment both chance marketing production stage. Overall food
production extended to India to double in next 10 years. Industry will improve both the social
and physical infrastructure of India. According to food processing industry analyses the
turnover of food processing market is approximately Rs.250000 cores which value added food
product comprise of Rs.80000 cores. Agriculture contribution of GDP output was 32%

Supply chain management deals with a wide spectrum of issues and it include
several types of decision, making problems that affect the long term development
and operation of a firm. Firstly issues such as determination of number, location and
capacity of warehouses and manufacturing plants. Secondly details of the flow of
material through the logistics network, inventory management policies, supply
contract, supply chain integration, supply contracts, distribution strategies,
outsourcing and procurement strategies.

3. NEED FOR THE STUDY

 To study the current supply chain management system with reference to


the various types of Supply chain.

 To study and implement the changes in supply chain management.

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

The study aims to gain insights into the concepts of operations in supply chain
management. The following broad objectives laid down for the purpose of the
study.
