1 INTRODUCTION
1.1 Purpose
The S&SEA articles press-review consists of a collection of
telecommunication wireless articles from several resources, which are
categorized under topics such as Political, Technology, Market Trend
etc.
Articles are stored in a database. They are reviewed every 2 weeks and
a selection is posted on a bulletin board which benefits to colleagues
when they pass along and read the articles. For maximum utilization
of the articles and more ease to browse, a S&SEA wireless database and
web interface is required. This solution will help users to retrieve
articles easily whenever required, based on topic, category.
This document describes the features and conditions of use for the
development of the overall database and web interface.
1.2 Audience and Extensions

Developer is the primary audience of this document. It must be used to
create and enhance the tool.

2 BACKGROUND
As part of the telecommunication business watch, Alcatel-Lucent

Malaysia is reviewing news and articles posted on several dedicated
websites. Relevant articles are selected and stored for further use,
whenever required.
The project deals with the establishment of a database + web interface
to store and retrieve articles. The solution must provide quick and
efficient access to the database and more especially must allow the
user to quickly and efficiently find articles related to a given topic.
The database management must be easy and prevent non-authorized
body to modify its content. A content management system will be used
to set up this project. Categories & tags based access and search tool
will bring the required efficiency to the interface.
3 SPECIFICATIONS
3.1 Global specifications

1. Content Management System is to be used to provide:
a. Easy to use web interface
b. Easy to update web interface
c. Database access with Tags feature
d. Login and password for the administration and database
security purpose
2. The web interface must allow the user to Perform the following
actions:
a. Retrieve an article from a database through categories
and tags search
b. Retrieve article through search tool
c. Input new article in the database
d. Print and export functions (to pdf)

3.4 Database construction

6. The database will contain press articles collected from various
sources (newspaper, web…) and is not limited in terms of media:
text, video, audio and other media files (flash…) can be stored.
7. The database will be modified (add/change/remove) by an
authorized user after he/she has identified as administrator
through login/pass.
8. The administration rights shall be easy to grant using the CMS
interface.
9. For ease of maintenance and feeding, articles will be stored as
pdf files
10.When a new article is input in the database, a dedicated
interface will invite the admin to:
a. Input title of the article
b. Input subtitle containing:
c. source of the article as form of a link
d. date of release of the article
e. Import file (pdf, picture…)
f. Input text (of the article)
g. Tags
11.The admin interface must allow to manage the database
(modify, delete)
3.5 Categories & Tags definition

12.Tags are to be added to any article of the database. Tags are
used to retrieve the information in an effective manner.

3.6 Search tool

13.The search tool will allow complex search to retrieve articles.
14.The following operators will be implemented
a. &: tag1 AND tag2 – the search will be made on all articles
tagged with tag1 and tag2
b. ^: tag1 OR tag2 - the search will be made on all articles
tagged with tag1 or tag2
c. >date D: the search will be made on all articles dated
from and after the proposed date D
d. <date D: the search will be made on all articles dated
from and before the proposed date D
e. *: wildcard
f. Any combination of the above

15.The search tool can be accessed all the time from the interface
(top bar)
3.7 Date format

16.The date format will follow the convention: month / day / year
3.8 Other features

17.The user can be given the possibility to comment an article
18.If the article is not originally a pdf file, a pdf export tool will
allow the user to transform the article in a portable file format.
19.RSS will be implemented
20.Weekly report with added articles will be automatically
generated and sent to a distribution list.
21.The admin will be able to generate, on request, or on schedule,
a list of “outdated” articles. There, it will be possible to delete
the entries.

4.2 Administrator’s manual
4.2.1 Admin access to the Web Interface by follow these steps
a. Activate the Wamp Server by click on the icon
b. Click on Wampserver Button then it will pop up the lists
then click “Start all services” to activate the server

until the button become white colour.
c. After click the button, it will show the list as Figure 1 then
Admin clicks on Localhost to access to the main page of
Wamp Server as Figure 2.
d. In the Figure 2 under “Your Projects” click on your project

“Wordpress” then it will access to main page of “Tag
Oriented Web Interface”.
e. In case if Administrator wants to see the database behind

your project you have to click pHpMyAdmin on Figure 1 so it
will show up the database as Figure 3.

4.2.2 Update/post article and control functions by

h. Post new articles

Post new articles by “Write” Function
i. Write the title and the content.
ii. For “Source” press button “Add Media” then it will
come up Figure 2 then insert URl or Link to the original
source of the article and put the title to show the link.
iii. Put the tag and choose category for the article.
iv. Select the date for the article post.
v. Click “Public” to public the post to the Web Interface.

l. Activation of new plugin

i. Once a new plugin has been created or downloaded
from dedicated websites, admin has to extract it and
copy it in the dedicated folder: (typically
C:\wamp\www\wordpress\wp-content\plugins)
ii. The plugin then appears in the plugins list (click “plugin
on the top right of Worpress management interface).
From this list, plugins can be activated, or inactivated
easily.

4.2.3 Transfer project from a host pc to another pc

(destination)
n. Download WampServer 2.0 from
http://www.wampserver.com/en/download.php
o. Install WampServer to the destination pc
p. Once install is finished then launch WampServer on host
q. Open pHpMyAdmin on the host pc
r. Open wordpress database
s. to export database click on “Export” then press “Go”

Copy and paste it onto notepad then save as wordpress.sql
t. Create new database in Wampserver at destination pc by

clicking on databases and name it “wordpress”
u. Choose wordpress database and click “import” then browse
the file wordpress.sql then click “Go”
v. Import the wordpress folder from host pc to destination pc

w. Select www directory from Wampserver and copy wordpress

folder (host PC) and paste to www folder (destination PC)
x. To check the Wordpress project, select Localhost from
WampServer, and then click wordpress in the projects list.

content management system. WordPress is a blog publishing
system written in PHP and backed by a MySQL database.

Package of independently created programs that use
Microsoft Windows Operating system; the interaction of these

principal components: Apache, MySQL and PHP (Perl or
Python). Wampserver comes with PHPMyAdmin and
SQLiteManager to easily manage your databases.

24. Suggestion
Tag – accessed database project is not following the structure
of original Wordpress but it does do a lot on programming and
adaption the Wordpress coding to complete the requirement
hence the suggestion when it needs to enhance the project is
to use Macromedia Dreamweaver for function and design of
Web Interface and Web developer 1.1.6 to change the realtime
designing

application server.

 Security in the form of user accounts, passwords, and
permissions
 Database and server load and data volume that can be handled
