A FUZZY LOGIC-PROPORTIONAL RESONANT CONTROLLER BASED

COORDINATED CONTROL SCHEME FOR STANDALONE SOLAR POWER

SYSTEM WITH BESS

OBJECTIVES:

The following objectives are considered in the proposed technique,

 To design a solar energy system

 To implement a Resonator controller instead of PI controller
 To design Fuzzy-Resonant controller for improving the transient performance of the
coordinated controller.
 To improve the efficiency of the standalone solar power system.

RESULTS

 The below figure.1 shows the simulation diagram of Standalone power systems
with solar power.

Figure 1. Simulation Diagram

 The power generated from Solar DC.

 Then by using an Dc-Dc converter the voltage is maintained constant.

 Then a battery is connected in between the converter and load.

 Then for providing supply to the AC loads a three phase Voltage source inverter is
connected with the DC-DC converter.
 The battery is connected to provide power when the variation in the load

Fig 2. Fuzzy logic design of Proportional resonant controller

 The above figure shows the fuzzy logic design of the proposed coordinated controller.
 The values of Kp and Kr is selected by the fuzzy logic controller based on the
membership functions shown in the below figure.
 Here Mandani based fuzzy logic control is used.

Fig.3 Fuzzy membership function of the proposed system

 The below figure shows the control diagram of the proposed fuzzy-PR coordinated

controller.

 The capacitor voltage at the inverter is compared with the reference dc voltage.

 The error and change in error are given to the fuzzy based PR controller and this signal

is again compared with the battery SOC state.

 Based on this the gate signal for the DC-DC converter is generated.

Figure 4. Control strategy of the proposed system

The output voltage and current waveform at the load side is given in the below figures.

Figure 7. Power output of the proposed system

 The above figure shows the output of the proposed coordinated control strategy in the

standalone solar system.

 Initially the system is operated at constant load. Now, the power generated from the

solar system as constant.

 At time=0.4-0.6sec, the load is changed and to compensate this the power produced

from the battery is also reduced.

 At time t=0.7 sec, the solar irradiation is reduced to 700m2/sec.

 Now, the power generated form the solar system is reduced.

 So, to provide necessary power to the load, by using the coordinated controller, the

power is supplied from battery to the load.

 At time t=0.9 sec, the irradiation is increased to 1000 m2/sec, now, the solar power is

increased and the power supplied from the battery is reduced.

The below figures show the THD waveform of the proposed fuzzy-PR coordinated controller.

Figure 9. Current THD of the proposed system

 From the above results it is shown that the proposed fuzzy based Proportional Resonant
controller effectively control the power in the standalone solar power system.
 The THD value of the output voltage is 1.40 % and Current THD is 1.17%.
 This is very low compared to the existing coordinated control methods.

(Proposed)

 From the above results it is shown that the proposed Fuzzy based PR controller

has the better performance in terms of Power control, THD analysis and DC

voltage control.

 The proposed controller variation is very less compared with the conventional

controller during the dynamic variation in the load and power generation.

 The THD at the load side also very less compared with the existing PI controller.
