A STUDY ON PROBLEMS OF WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS IN ALANGULAM

ABSTRACT
The main aim of conducting this research study is to know the problems of women
entrepreneurs in Alangulam Taluk. In order to conduct this study and to achieve the
objectives, the primary data has been collected by using structured questionnaire. Moreover,
secondary data has been collected from published reports, journals, periodicals, newspapers,
books, magazines, and other published literature. For collecting the primary data judgmental
sampling method is used. To undertake this study, samples of 120 respondents were selected.
It was found that most of the respondents are facing the problem of finance and family ties.
Hence, it is concluded that government take some measurements to remove these kinds of
problems associated with women entrepreneurs. Not only the government but the family
members and society also support to help the women entrepreneurs. It will help them develop
their business. Women entrepreneurs also take necessary steps to eradicate these kinds of
problem in their business and family life. It will develop your business as well as our
nation’s economy too.

INTRODUCTION:

An entrepreneur is an individual who creates a new business, bearing most of the risks
and enjoying most of the rewards. The entrepreneur is commonly seen as an innovator, a
source of new ideas, goods, services, and business/or procedures.
Over the past several decades the role of entrepreneurship in economic development
has become an essential factor of employment, and innovations bring enhanced the market
competition. Entrepreneurship is the primary factor in the growth of economies. Each new
business launched has an impact on an economy and affect people around it.
Entrepreneurs are playing a key role in economic development of the nation. They are
just like an agent, because they combined all the factors of productions and produce goods

and services. Normally factors of productions like land, labour, capital and organisation are
situated in separate places, but the entrepreneurs only combine all the factors in one place and
start the venture and achieving the objectives.
ROLE OF ENTREPRENEURS IN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF COUNTRY:
The importance of entrepreneurs in economic development are listed below

 Optimization of Capital
 Promotion of Exports

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM:
Women entrepreneurs also play an important role in the promotion of domestic trade
and foreign trade. They avail assistance from various financial institutions in the form of cash
credit, trade credit, overdraft, short term loans, secured loans and unsecured loans and lead to
the development of the trade in the country. In India women entrepreneurs are facing lot of
problems like finance, social and family problems when compare to men. It will affect their
physical as well as mental health. It will leads to failure in their business, with this in mind,
the study has been undertaken among 120 women entrepreneurs to find out their problems in
Alangulam Taluk.
OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
1. To study the demographic characteristics of the respondents
2. To find out problems of women entrepreneurs.
3. To give suitable suggestions to them for overcome the problems.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
This research is an analytical and descriptive research. It is related to the analysis of problems
of women entrepreneurs in Alangulam Taluk. In order to conduct this research, 120 sample
respondents are selected in the Alangulam Taluk. In this research, both primary and
secondary data were used. The judgmental sampling method was used. Simple percentage
and Garrett ranking techniques are used for data analyzing.
ANALYSIS AND RESEARCH FINDINGS
An attempt is made to know the problems of women entrepreneurs in Alangulam Taluk. The
variables such as the age of the respondents, marital status, system of family, nature of
business and problems faced by them were analyzed.

FINDINGS OF THE STUDY:

 It is found that, out of 120 respondents, 48% of the respondents are belongs to 30 – 40
years of age.
 It is found that, 73% of the respondents are married.

 It is observed that, out of 120 respondents, 59% of the respondents are in nuclear
family system.
 It is revealed that, 53% of the respondents are belongs to un-organised sector
business.
 It is found out that, the main problems of the respondents is finance and family
problem.

SUGGESTIONS:

 Most of the respondents are facing financial problem, so government take the special
steps to eradicate this main problem.
 Alangulam taluk banks, approved financial institutions, non approved financial
companies and local money lenders should come forward to give loans to women
entrepreneurs with reasonable interest rate.
 The family members of women entrepreneurs also support them. It leads to develop
their business.
 Women entrepreneurs should cautious and upto date in current market conditions.
 Government should conduct free EDP classes to women entrepreneurs for improving
their competitive skill.

CONCLUSION:

The result of the study indicates that most of the entrepreneurs are facing the problem
of finance and family problems. Women ready to balance their family life as well as their
business. Now a day’s competition among the competitors is rapidly increased. So women
entrepreneurs are thinking and doing in innovative manner. Not only that, they are ready to
improve their risk taking ability, educational background, competitive skill and innovation
skill. It leads to great success. Women entrepreneurs should take necessary steps to eradicate
these kinds of problem in their business and family life. It will develop their business as well
as our nation’s economy.
