REASON TO REJOICE
Dark violet is used throughout Advent to express its character as a season of spiritual prepa-
ration for Christmas and “the coming of the Lord.” But on the Third Sunday of Advent, formerly
known as Gaudete (Latin for “rejoice”) Sunday, rose may be added to the liturgical environment. The
entire liturgy is infused with a spirit of rejoicing.
Today’s first reading and Gospel proclaim the reality of God’s saving work in our midst.
Isaiah exuberantly describes the idyllic transformation of all creation as a result of God’s presence in
the midst of the people. In the Gospel, Jesus connects Isaiah’s prophecy with what is happening in
his own ministry. In addition to the list of healings from Isaiah (the blind, the lame, lepers, and the
deaf), Jesus’ presence brings two other reasons for rejoicing: “The dead are raised, and the poor
have the good news proclaimed to them” (Matthew 11:5).

Parishioners Preparing to Receive the

Easter Sacraments

My name is Matthew Ibalio and I am from Lombard. I am a

Sophomore at Glenbard South High School. I have attended
RE classes in the past but have missed a few years. My par-
ents thought it would be a good idea to take the classes to
prepare for Confirmation. I go to church with either my
friends or my family.
Confirmation is the last step I have to be in full communion
with the Catholic Church. I want to complete this before I get
older and will not have enough time.

My name is Amber Rose Elizabeth Kinzel. I am 17 years old and

a Jr. at Glenbard South High School. I am one child of 7. I have 4
sisters and 2 brothers. Some people call it crazy to have such a
big family, but to me it’s normal. Being part of such a big family
makes me feel whole because without them I would not have
anyone to go to when I’m in need to talk to someone. I love all of
my siblings, no matter what we fight about.
Growing up, I never really got along with my siblings, and I felt so
alone. When I got into middle school is when my life changed as I
played the role of mom. In my freshmen year of high school, I
moved in with my dad and his fiancé, Patti. Patti stepped in, and
to me she is my mom. I love her so much, because she took my
siblings and I in when we needed her. She provided us with so
much more than a child could ask for. She is the reason why I am
here. She wants my dad and I to have a good life. She wants the
best for us, and I am glad she cares for us.

My name is Jim Kinzel and I am 41 years old. Up until 3 years

ago, the only time I would ever go to church was either on the
Holidays or when I was a little boy with my grandparents. I have
to be honest, my initial intentions of getting involved with RCIA
was that my fiancé, Patricia Watts, wants our marriage to be
blessed by Fr. Peter at Christ the King. I have not been bap-
tized so this was a bit of a problem. Everything that she has
done for me and my kids, I felt that this was a way I could show
her how much she meant to me by doing this for her.

A funny thing happened along the way though. I actually, with

the help of Eileen Maggiore, Madalene and Michelle, have be-
come very interested about the religion. I have a long way to go
but so far, so good.

Continued next week.
