I am Keerthi Stanlyraj Geethajasmine, a Bachelor of Engineering graduate from India.

I graduated from
Anna University with a CGPA of 7.78 in 2016. I always wanted to specialize in Environmental
Engineering as I graduate since Post Graduation in Environmental Engineering is one among the most
sought-after stream among Civil Engineering graduates because of its blooming career opportunity in
a developing country like India. However, I was unable to pursue higher studies in Environmental
Engineering right after my graduation since I got an admission to learn Building Information Modelling.
After being worked as Civil Engineer for a short time I rediscovered myself as an environmentalist and
my true passion lies in conserving the surrounding, we live in by managing the air, water and energy
resources which are the very essence of a healthy natural atmosphere.
As an Agricultural country with growing urbanization, India builds its fortune on an unchecked or
poorly checked byproduct of the so-called industrialization, which is becoming a potential threat to the
Nature and its resources. Hence professionals with a sound knowledge in Environmental Science and
Engineering is of great demand and immediate need in various Government and Nonprofit
organizations like Department of Environment, State’s Pollution Control Board and Directorate of
Environment and Climate Change etc., to plan and execute any long-lasting promising objectives, that
might transform my mother country of, to attain the dream goal of pure air and fertile soil.
Despite having a reliable education system in India, more practical oriented approach in learning is
needed since in India one must gain experience after study to do skillful work while in Canada working
capability is attained as we complete the program. Hence studying in an Educational Organization of
world-class quality, especially from a country with proven history of successful implementation of
various environmental techniques, in prior situations that has challenged the Environmental
Conservation and Management, was my final thought. As we all know, Canada is one among the
Nations that have inspired several developing Nations by its successful management of Environmental
Crisis that the country had faced two decade back. Inspired from this, I believe studying in Canada
would give me an opportunity to explore the way it conserves its resources and thus I could jointly
establish Environmental Services here back in India with my husband thereby helping my mother
country in building a clean and sound environment for the future generations to come.
I found Bachelor of Engineering Technology - Environmental Studies, in Advanced Standing Post
Degree Format offered at the Cape Breton University to be a fitting program to set foot on my
Environmental Career pathway as it is an advancement of the courses Environmental Engineering,
Municipal Solid Waste Management etc., I learned as a graduate. Also, occupational hygiene course
provided by this program is of prime concern when it comes to containment of conventional byproducts
of construction and other related large-scale industries. All these knowledges along with the
Environmental Project Management are an added asset to my existing Civil Engineering degree which
will help me grow in managerial level of employment and would make me capable of building an
establishment of my own. Its courses are precise and appropriate to gain both theoretical and practical
knowledge at the same time.
Cape Breton University was my first option as it offers programs that cater to students seeking a world-
class education in an intimate learning environment. Hence, I applied for this program and got an offer
to join for May 2020 intake. The University is known for its small classroom size and experienced
faculties and as a student I would love to learn in an atmosphere which nurtures the learners with
individual care. CBU is also known for facilitating the finest among student services which would make
us feel at home. Environmental Studies program suits the ambience of Cape Breton Island that we fall
in love with the scenery and would want us to see the same in our home country.
Canada was my priority when I decided to pursue my Environmental studies since Canadians enjoy
high levels of environmental quality. Moreover, as a student the quality of all Canadian institutes in
providing a dynamic, innovative and challenging environment is inevitable. Canadian qualification will
surely be a strong base for boosting my career and building my future back in my country.
After completion of this program in Canada, I intend to come back to my home country with the
outstanding skill set acquired to join the Environmental sector, which is ever in need of competent
hands.
