B. Establishing Purpose for the

Lesson/Motivation

(presenting the pictures)

What have you seen in the television? I have seen a picture that
interviews a person Ma’am.
Okay, what else? I have also seen a bulletin board
Ma’am
Okay, very good.

The pictures that I have presented has

something do to with our topic for today. In order
to unlock our topic, I want you to analyze deeper
the pictures.

I know you have already saw in person a bulletin

board and I also know that you already saw
people doing interviews especially in television
specifically in news.

Why do you think is the connection of that Maybe Ma’am, our topic for today
pictures in our lesson for today?
has something to do with asking
You got it right. questions.
What made you think that asking questions is
our topic for today?

Because, bulletin board and

interviewing is a way of getting
information Ma’am. One way of
Wow, very impressive. getting information Ma’am is by
asking questions.
C. Presentation

Our topic for today class, is the Wh- questions.

It is very important for you as a student to have

knowledge about the wh- questions because you
can use these things in your daily life activities.
We should know how to use wh- questions
appropriately to avoid misunderstanding.

Part of communicating is asking questions right?

So that is why it is very relevant that we know Yes, Ma’am

how to use wh- question in order for us to
communicate effectively.

That is why our objectives for today are to:

1. formulate wh- questions;

2. explain the appropriate use of wh-
question; and
3. perform a short role play using wh-
questions.

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENTS’ ACTIVITY

D. Discussion

Does anyone of you here have any idea what

are the wh- questions?

I assume none.

Question words are also known as wh-

questions.
So the question is, how are they formed?

Wh- questions are formed by inserting wh- word

in the place of the missing information.
Wh- questions focus on a particular part of the
sentence.
Wh- questions ask for information and we do not
expect a yes- no answer.
So, wh- questions are Who, When, Where,
What, and How.
Examples:
1. Who are joining the contest?
2. What is the advertisement all about?
3. When will it be held?
4. Where will it be held?
5. What are the details in the
advertisement?

We usually form wh- questions with wh- plus an

auxiliary verb (be, do, or have) plus subject plus
main verb.
Example:
When are you leaving?
Where do you live? (students example may vary)
So now, who can give me an example of wh-
plus an auxiliary verb (be, do, or have) plus
subject plus main verb? (students example may vary)

Very good.

Who can give me another?

Excellent.

We can also form wh- question with wh- plus a

modal verb plus subject plus main verb.
Example:
Where should I park? (students example may vary)
When will be the contest?

Who can give me examples of wh- plus a modal

verb plus subject plus main verb?

Very good.

So to clearly understand the uses of the question

words or the wh- questions, I will present a table
and I want you to internalize the information
given in the table.

As what you have seen, the wh- question words We can use who when we are
have different meaning or usage. asking for the name of a person
Ma’am.
How does “who” function? When can we use Example: Who is the winner of the
“who”? Give example. contest?
The answer will be a name of a
person, such as Nancy.

Very good.
When we are asking for time
How about “when”? When can we use the Ma’am.
question word “when”? Give example Example: When is the last time
you visit your grandmother?
The answer will be the time such
as yesterday.

Excellent.

How about “where”? When can we use the Where can be use when we are
question word “where”? Give example. asking for a place Ma’am.
Example: Where do you want to
go during vacation?
The answer will be a place such
as in Boracay.

Very good.
How about “what”? when can we use the What can be use when we are
question word “what”? Give example. asking for an object, idea or
action.
Example: What are you eating?
The answer will be an object
particularly a fruit such as banana.
Very good.
How about “how”? when can we use the
question word “how”? Give example. How can be use when we are
asking for manner.
Example: How did you arrive in
school?
The answer will a manner such as
Very good. by riding a bicycle.

E. Developing Mastery

For additional information, I have a short video

clip about formulating wh- questions. All of you
should pay attention so that you may be able to
clearly understand the wh- questions.

(playing the video)

So, do you now have an idea how to formulate (students watch the video)
the wh- question?

Do you now know how to use wh- questions Yes, Ma’am.

appropriately?

Very Good. Yes, Ma’am.

F. Generalization

So again class, what is wh- questions?

Wh- question are also known as

question words. They are formed
by inserting wh- word in place of a
missing information. Wh- ask for
information and we do not expect
a yes-no answer.
It has different uses like:
What is for person, when is for
time, where is for place, who is for
Very well said. person and how is for manner.

G. Application
So now, to test whether you really have
understood the topic for today, I will give you an
activity. This activity is what we call information-
gathering activity incorporated with a role play.

I will group you into 5. Since you are 50 all in all,

supposed to be each group has 10 members.

Since counting is very time consuming, so I will

group you according to your seating
arrangement.

Row 1 will be group 1

Row 2 will be group 2
Row 3 will be group 3
Row 4 will be group 4
And lastly, row 5 will be group 5.
Yes, Ma’am.
Is it clear?

Now, all you have to is to present here in front a

short roleplay that consists for about 2-3 minutes
which involves asking questions using wh-
questions. It only depends on you what kind of
roleplay you are going to present as long as it
connects to or topic for today.
Yes, Ma’am
Does it make any sense?

I have here the rubrics for your presentation.

(reading the rubrics to the class)
So therefore, the highest score you may get is
25 points.

I will give you 3 minutes for preparation. (students seats with their groups
You may go to your respective groups now. and do the planning)

(After 3 minutes)
Okay, time is up!
Write your group number and names in a ¼
sheet of paper and then submit it to me. (students submits the paper)
I will pick randomly who will present here in front.

Okay, our first presenter will be group (depends (the group who is picked presents
on who will be picked) their short role play.)

Okay, thank you so much group __.

(the group who is picked presents
Next presenter will be group (depends on who their short role play.)
will be picked)
Okay, thank you so much group __.
(the group who is picked presents
Next presenter will be group (depends who will their short role play.)
be picked)

Okay, thank you so much group __.

(the group who is picked presents
Next presenter will be group (depends on who their short role play)
will be picked)
Okay, thank you so much group __.
(the group who is picked presents
So last presenter will be (the only paper left in their short role play)
my hand)

Okay, thank you so much.

Give a round of applause to each and every one

because you’ve done your job well. It was fun Ma’am.

So, how did you find the activity?

Yes, it was actually fun, I can see that you really

have enjoy your presentation.

But of course, one group got the highest score.

The group that got the highest score is (depends
on who performs best.)

They get (depends on the points they get from

the rubrics) points all in all. (Thank you Ma’am.)

Congratulations.

So, based from your performance I saw and

observed that you really have understood the
topic which is the formulating wh- questions.
