MAIN DOOR
The tympanum above the central door bears the Latin inscription TIBI, CORDI TUO IMMACULATO,
CONCREDIMUS NOS AC CONSECRAMUS. (To you, and to your Immaculate Heart, we entrust and
consecrate ourselves.) From the prayer pronounced by Pope Pius XII, consecrating the Church and the
entire human race to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, in a radio message to the Portuguese faithful on
October 31, 1942, first Jubilee of Our Lady of Fatima.

BAPTISTRY
FONS HIC EST VITAE QUI TOTUM DILUIT ORBEM, SUMENS DE CHRISTI VULNERE PRINCIPIUM (This is
the fountain of life, which cleanses the whole world, its origin is Christ's wound.) From a poem written
by Pope Leo the Great. Inscribed also in the Baptistry of the Lateran Basilica in Rome.

NISI QUIS RENATUS FUERIT EX AQUA ET SPIRITU SANCTO NON POTEST INTROIRE IN REGNUM DEI
(Unless one is reborn of the water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the Kingdom of God.) From John 3:5,
Jesus' dialogue with Nicodemus.

SEDEBIT DOMINUS REX IN AETERNUM. DOMINUS BENEDICET POPULO SUO IN PACE. (The Lord shall sit
King for ever. The Lord will bless his people with peace.) From Psalm 29:10-11, Communion Antiphon
for the Solemnity of Christ the King.

CRYPT
PRETIOSA IN CONSPECTU DOMINI MORS SANCTORUM EIUS. (O precious in the eyes of the Lord is the
death of his faithful.) From the common of martyrs. Psalm 115:6

O VOS OMNES QUI TRANSITIS PER VIAM, ATTENDITE ET VIDETE: SI EST DOLOR SIMILIS SICUT DOLOR
MEUS. (O all you who walk by on the road, pay attention and see: if there be any sorrow like my
sorrow.) From Lamentations 1:12, attributed to Our Lady of Sorrows.

IN DIVINO HOC SACRIFICIO, QUOD IN MISSA PERAGITUR, IDEM ILLE CHRISTUS CONTINETUR ET
INCRUENTE IMMOLATUR, QUI IN ARA CRUCIS SEMEL SE IPSUM CRUENTE OBTULIT. (In this divine
sacrifice which is celebrated in the mass, that same Christ is contained and immolated in an unbloody
manner who once offered himself in a bloody manner on the altar of the cross.) From the Council of
Trent Chapter II.

original sin is not in you.) Based on Song of songs 4:7.

MULIER AMICTA SOLE ET LUNA SUB PEDIBUS EIUS (A woman clothed with the sun, with the moon
under her feet.) From Revelation 12:1

SANCTIFICAVIT TABERNACULUM SUUM ALTISSIMUS (The Most High has sanctified His tabernacle.)
Psalm 65:5. From one of the inscriptions at the Column of the Immaculate Conception in Piazza di
Spagna in Rome.
