INTRODUCTION
TOPIC:
“Crime in the Caribbean: The Effects of Crime on the Society”
PROBLEM STATEMENT:
What are the effects of crime on the society of Chaguanas?
RESEARCH QUESTIONS:
1. What cause criminal activities?
2. What are the main crimes in Chaguanas?
3. How has crime affected the lives of the residents of Chaguanas?
4. How does crime affect the society of Trinidad and Tobago?
5. What measures can be implemented to reduce the crime in Chaguanas and
increase the safety of the citizens?

PURPOSE OF RESEARCH
The goal of this research to bring awareness to the extreme rate at which crime is
growing and how detrimental the consequences are to society, in return hope to
find ways to reduce the impact of crime and build a more well-informed
community and an overall safer environment. The assignment uncovers the views
and opinions of the residents of Chaguanas and highlight the crime severity in the
area in addition seek to find the most committed crime and the reasoning for it.
This was done by administering questionnaires to a random sample population in
Chaguanas. The responses of the questionnaires together with data from different
media sources were used to deduce the impacts of crime on a society and
recommendations to reduce the effect.
EDUCATIONAL VALUE
The information gathered which highlight the severity of crime and methods of
alletion and reducing the rate is beneficial to not only the Chaguanas residence of
Trinidad but general readers even foreign, whose community is in the similar
situation. The data and statics can be relevant to the authorities when assessing
situations and using the different methodologies given to deal with. The media
such the newspapers can use the information to cite statistics and raise awareness
to the general public.
DEFINITION OF KEY TERMS
Crime – an action or omission which constitutes an offence punishable by law
Society – the aggregate of people living together in a more or less ordered
community
Criminal – a person who has committed a crime
Murder- the unlawful premediated killing of one human being by another
Punishment- the infliction or imposition of a penalty as retribution for an offence
