PROJECT PROPOSAL

I. TITLE: “PLANT – INTO THE GREENER COMMUNITY”

II. INTRODUCTION

Trees are not just essential for life, but as the longest living species on earth, they give us a

link between the past, present and future. Plants and trees are important to our world and offer a

wide range of benefits to our environment. The benefits from these plants and trees spread far

beyond villages to our homes in Town, School and Communities as well. Plants and trees

increase our quality of life by bringing natural elements and wildlife habitats into urban settings.

Besides the obvious functions of aesthetics and shade, mature trees stabilize soil and reduce

erosion, increase soil fertility, enhance the land's ability to store water, provide wildlife habitat,

moderate air and soil temperatures, and help to reduce salinization. Moreover, trees clean the air.

Trees absorb odors and pollutant gases (nitrogen oxides, ammonia, sulfur dioxide and ozone) and

filter particulates out of the air by trapping them on their leaves and bark.

Locally, some low areas in our municipality experiences flash flood when there is a

heavy rain due to lack of trees which serve a big role in preventing floods. According to United

States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the typical medium-sized tree can intercept as much

as 2,380 gallons of rainfall per year. Specifically the Purok 6A, Bagong Silang, Brgy. San Roque

encounters flash flood just by raining continuously. That’s why, the Group 5 of BSCE - 1 in

NSTP subject arrived with the idea of conducting a Tree Planting Activity.
Through this program, the people of community of Purok 6A will significantly benefit

not just by preventing a massive floods, but also nourishing the soil, and reducing the air

pollution.
