New Features
The following is a list of features introduced in version 4.0.2:
• Advanced Capacity Planning: the Capacity Planning report pack now provides
recommendations for adding host and storage resources. New capabilities also allow
you to analyze information about datastore provisioning and storage allocations.
With enhanced what-if modeling, you can specify custom configuration details for
new types of hosts and VMs.
• Get to Know Veeam Reporter report pack: the Get to Know Veeam Reporter report
pack provides out-of-the-box reports for discovering storage resource consumption
by abandoned virtual machines, reporting DRS and HA status and resource
consumption by clusters, and tracking the upgrade status and distribution of
hypervisor versions across hosts.

The following is a list of new features introduced in version 4.0.1:

• Support for VMware vSphere 4.1: Veeam Reporter 4.0.1 supports VMware vCenter
Server 4.1 and VMware ESX(i) 4.1.
• Capacity Planning report pack: the Capacity Planning report pack provides multiple
reports for resource utilization prediction and what-if scenario modeling.

Resolved Issues
The following is a list of issues resolved in version 4.0.2:

Web UI
• On large deployments, the Web UI can become unresponsive for extended periods of
time when browsing.

Collection jobs
• File-search tasks might timeout depending on the number of datastores in the virtual
environment.
• ESX(i) hosts might be missing from the infrastructure view due to incorrect
multipathing configurations.
• The ESX(i) host licenses report might have empty fields when collecting information
from vSphere 4.1 hosts.
• Information for virtual objects, such as vApps and Distributed Virtual Switches, may
not be collected from a vSphere 4.1 environment.

SSRS Reports
• The Performance report pack may display “No Data Available” due to the service error
“Unable to cast object of type 'System.Int64[]' to type 'System.String[]'.”
• The Capacity Planning report pack may fail with “Query exectuion failed for dataset
'Dataset1'” error if a host or other virtual object was moved between clusters.

Known Issues
The following is a list of issues known to exist at the time of the Veeam Reporter 4.0.2 release:

General
• Computers with Veeam Reporter Scheduling service, Microsoft SQL server and
Microsoft SSRS server must be located in the same time zone and have synchronized
time. Otherwise, reports may produce unexpected results.
• The Web UI expires after 20 minutes of inactivity, and continuing to use it may
produce unexpected results. To work around this issue, close and re-open the
Reporter web site.

SSRS Reports
• Some hyperlinks inside SSRS reports may expire after 20-30 minutes due to SSRS
implementation specifics.
• Exported SSRS reports have embedded hyperlinks disabled. This is by SSRS export
functionality design.
• Sorting does not work for SSRS infrastructure reports when grouping is in use.
• Performance reports may be empty if the selected time period is less than a few days.
• Hiding an object does not affect existing SSRS reports. To work around this issue,
update and save all reports containing the object before hiding the object.
• Fault-tolerant VMs are always shown as “modified” due to constant changes of the
“Vmx File Short” property.

Offline Reports
• Inherited permissions are missing from Permissions reports created on objects of a
lower level than the object on which permissions are defined.

Audit Data
• The audit trail in the Change Management report does not show any events if the
selected time range does not span at least 2 data collection sessions.
• Veeam Reporter will fail to collect audit data with the “Failed to initialize audit data
collection: Failed to login to "vc40" by SOAP, port 443, user "vc40user", proxy srv: port:0
(The operation has timed out)” error if the user account that was provided when

Veeam Reporter 4.0.2 | Release Notes

adding the vCenter Server to Veeam Reporter does not have privileges for the whole
vCenter Server.

Data Collection Jobs

• A data collection job is started automatically when the job schedule is changed.
• Performance data collection may fail for a VM that is created or deleted while such
collection is being performed. Any missing performance data will be collected during
the next collection pass.
• Performance data collection is not supported for ESX(i) hosts which are not part of a
vCenter Server, because ESX(i) does not maintain performance history data. The
absence of this data affects reports in the Performance and Capacity Planning report
packs.

Reporting Jobs
• Special symbols are not supported in the script parameters for reporting jobs.
• Large report files may not be delivered properly because the email server is unable to
process large attachments correctly. If this happens, the attachment will be truncated
to 64 bytes. To work around this issue, either adjust email server settings, or configure
the reporting job to save reports to a shared folder.

Performance Report Pack

• Performance reports may be missing data if data collection is set to run every 4 hours
or more frequently because a vCenter Server updates the history table only once
every few hours.
• Due to insufficient resources on the SSRS server, the browser may hang when trying
to display a Performance report for a very large period of time or for too many
objects.

Capacity Planning Report Pack

• The Capacity Planning report pack requires that CLR integration be enabled on the
SQL Server where the Veeam Reporter database resides.

Localization
• Some offline reports, (such as PDF reports, may display double-byte characters
incorrectly.

Setup
• Setup may fail to install new SQL Server instance if the server is pending reboots after
installing security updates.
• Setup fails to install a new SSRS Server instance on Windows XP if the default web IIS
site is configured to use port 8080.
• Setup may fail with “Error 27502. Could not connect to Microsoft SQL Server” error when
installing on a Terminal Server.

Globalization
• Non-latin characters are not supported in the product’s installation path, in the
Veeam Reporter service account name and in virtual machine properties.

Installing Veeam Reporter

The Veeam Reporter 4.0 setup comprises three components — Veeam Reporter Server, Veeam
Reporter Web UI and Veeam Reporter PowerShell snap-in.

Veeam Reporter Server

1. Download the latest version of Veeam Reporter from:
www.veeam.com/vmware-esx-reporter/download.html
2. Extract the files from the download archive and run the VeeamReporterSetup.exe file.
3. Accept the terms of the Veeam Reporter License Agreement to install the product.
4. Select a destination folder for installation of the Veeam Reporter Server and Veeam
Reporter Web UI components.
5. Provide the setup program with your license file.
6. Select an existing SQL Server instance in which to create the Veeam Reporter
database, or have setup install a local instance of SQL Server 2008 Express Edition.
Setup will install a named (VEEAMSQL2008) instance of SQL Express.
7. Select an SSRS instance to use with Veeam Reporter. You can use a remote SSRS
instance that already exists in your environment, install a new SSRS instance using the
Veeam Reporter setup, or use a local SSRS instance.

Note: If you select the second or third option, make sure the Configure selected SSRS instance for
Veeam Reporter automatically check box is selected — otherwise you will have to manually
specify SSRS settings after Veeam Reporter is installed.

8. Specify the administrative credentials to run the Veeam Reporter service.

Note: The specified user should have database owner rights to the Veeam Reporter database on the
SQL Server instance.

9. Specify the TCP Port to be used by Veeam Reporter IIS web site.
10. Click Install to start the installation.
11. After the installation is complete, launch Veeam Reporter by clicking the Veeam
Reporter product icon on your desktop.

Upgrading Veeam Reporter

Important! It is strongly recommended that you back up your current Veeam Reporter SQL Server
database before starting the upgrade process. Also, it is crucial that you stop all collection and
reporting jobs.
All previously saved Capacity Planning reports will be automatically removed by the upgrade.

To perform an upgrade of Veeam Reporter to version 4.0.2, you must be running version 4.0 or
4.0.1.
To upgrade to Veeam Reporter 4.0.2:
1. Download the latest version of Veeam Reporter from:
www.veeam.com/vmware-esx-reporter/download.html.
2. Extract the files from the download archive.

3. Run the VeeamReporterSetup.exe file on all computers where Veeam Reporter product
components are installed. The setup will detect the presence of currently installed
components – Veeam Reporter Web UI, Veeam Reporter Server and Veeam Reporter
PowerShell - and prompt you to confirm their deletion.
4. Follow the installation wizard steps to upgrade your Veeam Reporter components.
5. During the upgrade process, the setup detects and upgrades the SQL Server database
currently in use by the previous version of Veeam Reporter.
6. Upgrade the Veeam Report Viewer component on all computers where it was
installed and used to view reports.

Uninstalling Veeam Reporter

To remove Veeam Reporter, use the standard Windows Control Panel interface for managing

Licensing
Veeam Reporter is available in two versions: a full version featuring full application
functionality and a Free Edition version featuring limited application functionality. Veeam
Reporter Free Edition does not require you to provide a license during the product’s setup.
Without a license file, it can be used for up to 100 days. After that, you will be asked to install a
free license file which can be obtained by registering your product installation with Veeam.

All licensed report packs require a license key. If you are a Free Edition user or your original
trial license has expired, please contact your Veeam representative to purchase a license or to
request an extended trial license key. Please be aware that the standard trial license supports
up to 16 sockets; your Veeam representative can help you if you need a license for more
sockets.
Veeam Reporter is licensed per CPU Socket ("CPU Sockets") for each Managed Server. A
Managed Server is defined as an ESX(i)host that is monitored, collected data from or otherwise
managed by the software. For more information, see www.veeam.com/eula.html.
To obtain a full license for any desired number of sockets, refer to
www.veeam.com/buy-end-user.html
The full license includes a one-year maintenance plan. To renew your maintenance plan,
please contact Veeam customer support at: support@veeam.com.

Installing a Veeam Reporter License

To install the new license file:
1. Select Configuration > License on the Veeam Reporter site.
2. Browse to the license file (.lic) that was sent to you and click the Install button to
