Career Goals 1

It has been said that the secret of teaching is to appear to have known all your life what you just

learned this morning (unknown). To me, this quote encompasses the balance of research and teaching.

What was once just a dream as an undergraduate student became a reality when I student taught high

school Agricultural Science students. I realized that dream again as a graduate assistant working with a

senior seminar class, as a lecturer in Business Communications for a community college, and as a group

exercise instructor at a gym. What sets this latter experience apart from the former was that it lacked the

research component. That is to say, I was not actively engaged in seeking out answers to new questions

while also imparting the knowledge to others.

To teach others requires researching an ever-changing world. To conduct research requires teaching the

next generation to carry on the knowledge for generations to come. And thus, it is my career goal to find a

position that blends teaching with research. The following position vacancies represent the type of

position that meets this basic requirement and for which I feel I will be qualified upon completion of my

doctoral studies.
