Professional Development Statement 1

Goals

The Fall 2009 semester held a significant change for me. When I first began the pursuit of

doctoral studies, I had two goals in mind. Now, as I focus on completing my first full year of the LDT

program, I find that neither of these goals holds any significance to me. I see now that, while well

intended, they were ill-formed conceptions that failed to look at a bigger picture. Thus, my current goals

are simple and focus more directly on potential, viable research topics. In turn, these goals fit neatly under

the larger objective of graduating with a Ph.D. and beginning a lifelong pursuit to contribute positively to

the common body of knowledge through research and teaching. These goals, in no particular order, are as

follows:

 Become more intimate with the individual principles of the Cognitive Theory of Multimedia

Learning

 Explore current research related to motivation and multimedia

 Explore current research related to cognition and theory of learning

Activities

It is my plan to also engage in professional development activities that will further these goals

both directly and indirectly. Some of the completed and in progress activities may be repeated under new

circumstances to meet this objective.
