2.0 PRODUCTS
2.1 General
This specification covers only the general requirements of the assemblies. The specific
requirements of each assembly (plan, arrangement, indoor or outdoor, component ratings,
relaying, metering, one-line diagrams, and control schemes), shall be shown on detailed
datasheets and documents that shall be part of the RFQ or PO.
2.2 Material
2.3 Equipment
A. Gas System
1. The assembly shall be divided into bays and each bay into gastight and arc-
resistant compartments so that the effect of any fault is confined to the respective
compartment.
2. The gas barriers and joints in the assembly shall have a high degree of tightness
to keep the loss of gas pressure to less then 0.1 percent per year.
3. Each major device or section shall be accessible for monitoring and maintenance
without evacuating a large volume of gas.
4. Each gas filled compartment shall have its own SF6 gas monitoring device and
rupture diaphragm that ruptures to discharge gas under excessive pressure.
Vented gas shall be diverted away from the operating aisle.
6. Gas monitoring shall be provided with one high pressure contact and 2 low
pressure contacts for alarm.
7. Each gas section also shall be provided with a gas connection valve for
evacuating and refilling the section. In addition, a means shall be provided for
connection of a manometer for checking the gas pressure.
B. CB (Circuit Breaker)

shall have a contact to initiate a remote alarm.
8. Each CB shall have a mechanical position indicator linked to the main contact.
10. The control panel shall contain equipment for monitoring, control, and
maintenance of the CB and its associated equipment.
11. The CB shall be capable of carrying the rated current and interrupting and
withstanding the short-circuit currents specified in the datasheets.
12. The CB also shall be capable of interrupting the rated current in the event of total
loss of SF6 gas pressure.
1. All switches shall be motor operated. A single operator shall operate the 3 poles
of the switch simultaneously.
3. Each switch shall have a mechanical position indicator linked with the main
contacts as well as viewing windows in the enclosure to see the actual position.
4. Provision shall be made for padlocking the switches in both open and closed
position.
6. All auxiliary contacts of the switches shall be wired out to accessible terminal
blocks in the local control panel.
7. Disconnect switches shall normally operate at zero current, but they shall be
capable of switching low charging currents.
8. The grounding switches on the bus bars, and the incoming and outgoing
disconnect switches shall be of the high speed type. High speed switches shall
be operated by motor charged springs.
9. When high speed switches operate, the contact rod shall be actuated directly to
release the springs.

10. The disconnect switches shall be interlocked with associated CBs and grounding
switches to prevent any incorrect sequence of operation.
D. Bus System
2. The bus subassemblies shall be segregated from each other by gas barriers to
form separate gastight compartments.
4. Bus bars shall be able to carry the continuous current and shall be mechanically
braced to withstand the asymmetrical current as shown on the datasheets.
E. Instrument Transformers
1. Each CT shall have a secondary current rating as specified in data sheet MQ-DS-
E-6027.
2. CT’s shall be rated to withstand the steady state current and maximum short
circuit momentary rating of the switchgear.
3. The secondary winding ends and tappings of each bay shall be brought out
through gas-tight bushings to terminals in the respective local control cabinet.
These terminals shall be of the disconnectable shorting link type.
4. The number of CT’s and their ratios shall be shown on the one-line diagrams.
5. CT’s shall be selected to not saturate for a fault current equal to the switchgear
maximum short circuit rating.
8. PT’s shall have a BIL equal to or greater than the BIL rating of the switchgear,
and shall have primary voltage rating equal to the system’s line-to-line voltage.
10. Accuracy classes and burdens shall be in accordance with IEC 60186 or IEEE
1300 for voltage transformers.
11. All secondary-winding ends shall be brought out through gas-tight bushings to
terminals in a terminal box mounted on the outside of the voltage transformer
module.
