When I was working at Kumon, I implemented a new strategy to advertise and

When a new student is inscribed in the Kumon method, the assistant responsible
of he/she asks the parents to fill a sheet with all the personal information and the
assistant fills it with results of the test applied to him/her. A couple of months ago
one student didn’t fill the sheet with his personal information, so by the time when
the monthly report was about to be captured, I couldn’t put him in the database
and subsequently the report wouldn’t be sent. Luckily, that student hadn’t
assisted that day, so we could wait him and request his mother the information.
We called the parents to remind them to bring his son to the Kumon Center and
give their information.

38. Tell us about a time when you had to make a difficult decision.

Maybe this isn’t a hard decision, but one that divides. At university, one professor
gave us the exam for “homework” and told the group he’ll be receiving it the next
day. I solved it not quickly but early compared to my classmates. By the evening
I made a phone call to him and request alternatives to send him the exam,
because by tomorrow at morning I was going to be at Toluca. He said I could
take a photo to my exam and emailed it. One hour later my classmates were
asking me if I had the answers to the exam, and here I am deciding which
decision I’ll take: say yes to them and share the answers with them, say yes and
share no answers, or lie them and say I didn’t even have an idea to solve it.
Finally, I decided to respond affirmative to their question and deny the answers
to them. Cheating leads nowhere else than disaster, early as the morning or late
as night.

39. Tell us about a time when you successfully managed a difficult situation at
work.
There was a very problematic student at Kumon, who hardly ever brought his
homework done. One day he decided to prove everybody’s patience: he started
to bother the students near him and talked loudly when my partners tried to shut
him up. So, I kindly asked him to calm down and get to work or his parents will
be noticed of his behavior. After that, he started to work because of my warning.
That is how you deal with a problematic kid.
40. Describe a situation in which you took a risk. What were the results?

A couple of years ago, I decided to pull out the 4 wisdom teeth once and for all.
The thing is I suffered a lot of pain and complications, even more when I was
traveling back to my home from Morelia, the place where my 4 wisdom teeth
were extracted. For an entire month, I had to be resting in my house eating soft
food, so my injuries could heal. Finally, I recovered very well by the next month.
It has been the most complicated and risky situation I’ve ever lived. If I was born
again, I’ll never do it again.
