Manual Before excavation begins, the construction Site In-charge Excavation engineer must consider specific site conditions such as – presence of a competent person, traffic, vibrations in the vicinity of the worksite, proximity of structures and their conditions, soil, surface water and groundwater, chemical contamination of soil or water, overhead and underground utilities, weather etc. Before start of trial trench excavation, the site survey to be done to know in advance the underground utilities and suitably the route to be decided. Hard barricading to be provided around the Site In-charge MIEL/CIVIL/001/01 excavated part if the depth of excavation is more than 1 m. The hard barricading shall be 1.5 m distance from the edge of excavated pit/trench. Walkways shall be provided where employees or equipment are required or permitted to cross over excavations. Pathways shall not be slippery (due to accumulation of mud, sand or gravel). This should be avoided. Excavated material should be stacked at a safe distance (min 1.5 m away from the edge)
