Paper 2 of the UPSR: Section A, Section B and Section C
Time: 1 hour 15 minutes
Total Marks: 40
This section guides you on how to answer questions in Paper 2 of the UPSR.
There are three writing activities in the examination paper:
(A) Sentence Construction (10 marks)(Time suggested: 15 minutes)
(B) Information Transfer (15 marks)(Time suggested: 25 minutes)
(C) Note Expansion (15 marks)(Time suggested: 35 minutes)
The section on sentence construction requires pupils to write five complete sentences based on a
picture and using the guide words given.
The section on information transfer consists of two parts (a) and (b). Pupils read and understand one
form of text and organise the information into another form.
Part (a): Transfer information to a table.
Part (b): Choose an item and give reasons for choosing it.
The section on note expansion requires pupils to write sentences in paragraph form based on a
series of pictures. All the notes given must be used.
Sentence Construction
Guide to success
(1) Look at the picture carefully.
(2)Ask yourself what the picture is about.
(3)Read the given words.
(4) Construct sentences about the picture. You may write about things that are not shown in the
picture but are related to the picture.
(5) Remember that you are not required to write a story. So, your sentences do not have to be in
sequence.
(6) Remember to write sentences that are grammatically correct. Pay attention to subject-verb
agreement, tenses, articles, pronouns etc.
(7) Be creative. Use adjectives, adverbs and conjunctions to show that you have a good command of
the language.
(8) Remember to spell correctly. Punctuate your sentences correctly too. Check that you have used
the full stop, comma and capital letter correctly.
(9) Do not make sentences which have similar meanings.
(10) Remember that a good sentence does not have to be long and complex. Use a variety of
sentences.

UPSR TIPS: 
SECTION A/PAPER 2
Examination requirements:
(1) This section carries 10 marks.
(2) Pupils have to construct 5 complete sentence based on a composite picture and words given.
(3) This section tests writing sentences with correct grammar, punctuation and spelling.

Information Transfer
Guide to Success
(1) Read and understand the given text.
(2) Identify the information to be transferred.
(3) Copy correctly from the text.
(4) Fill in the relevant information. Refer to the answers given in the table as examples to follow. 
(5) Make only ONE choice and give reasons why you chose it.
UPSR TIPS:
SECTION B/PAPER 2
Examination requirements:
(1)-This section carries 15 marks altogether Part (A) carries 10 marks while Part (B) is worth 5 marks.
(2) In Part (A) you are given a table with 10 blanks. You must complete the table based on the three
choices the information given.
(3) Some of the choices you have to make may include choosing a birthday present, an activity, a
holiday destination, a restaurant etc.
(4) In Part (B), you are asked to choose which of the choices you like best. You must provide reasons
to support your choice.

Guide to Success
(1) Read the instructions carefully.
(2) Study the pictures and words given.
(3) These words or questions will give you a clue to the correct tense for the sentences.
(4) You may use the words given to construct grammatically correct sentences.
(5) Use a variety of sentences (simple, compound and complex).
(6) Elaborate on your sentences by using adjectives and adverbs to make them interesting.
(7) Pay attention to structure, spelling and punctuation.
(8) Write legibly.

UPSR TIPS:
SECTION C: PAPER 2
Examination Requirements:
(1) This section carries 15 marks.
(2) You are given a series of pictures with words.
(3) You must write a story based on the pictures and the words given.
(4) Ideally, your composition should be between 50 - 80 words.

Model Answer
I would choose the assorted mini nut chocolates because my brother likes the
delicious taste of the different types of nuts in the chocolate. The chocolates are packed in an
attractive tin. There are 30 pieces of assorted nut chocolates, which are packed 10 to a tray on three
plastic trays. The price of Chocolate 2 is the most reasonable of the three offers because it costs only
RM 10.00 for 350 g of chocolate.
Chocolate 2 is also a very popular brand as it is available at all supermarkets.     
Therefore, it is very convenient and easy for me to buy it.

SECTION B (b)
(b)( i) I would choose a goldfish because I like observing fish swimming in the fishbowl. Watching the
way it swims makes me happy and relaxed. Besides, I only have to pay RM5 to get one which is quite
cheap. Moreover, a fishbowl of goldfish can beautify my living room. Rearing goldfish is easy as I only
need a filter and some worms for its daily food. Therefore, it is an affordable hobby for a child like
me.
(b)(ii) I would choose a white mouse as my pet because it would be nice to touch its fluffy fur when I
hold the mouse. I can’t probably touch the goldfish or the terrapin! Moreover, the white mouse is a
mammal unlike the other two pets. At RM10, it is still affordable and I can easily get it from the pet
shop which is just a stone’s throw away from my house. I can also get some grains, sawdust and a
cage for the mouse from the same shop. I will keep my pet in my room and feed it daily with grains
and water.
(b)(iii) I would choose to buy a terrapin because it looks very cute and I had always wanted to rear a
reptile. I have more than RM8 in my savings, so I would buy the terrapin and some vegetables with
the money. My brother has a small aquarium that I can use to keep my terrapin. I will then decorate
my pet’s home with pebbles and plants. It will be so exciting to watch the terrapin swimming in the
shallow water.

SECTION C (15 marks/Time suggested: 35 minutes)

During the last school holidays, the pupils of Sekolah Kebangsaan Taman Indah were given an
opportunity to go for a three days’ trip to Melaka. Early that morning, the school assembly ground
was crowded with pupils and their parents and siblings who came to send them off for the trip. A
few teachers who were in charge of the trip were there too.
About an hour later, all the children and teachers safely boarded the bus and the children waved
their hands at their parents and siblings happily. Some of them chatted away noisily with their
friends in the bus. After arranging the pupils’ bags into the luggage compartment of the bus, the
driver started the engine and slowly drove the bus out of the school compound.
As the bus moved a little further, suddenly one of parents noticed a black bag left behind by one of
the pupils. He shouted immediately and started waving his hand while running towards the bus
which was just beginning to turn into the road outside the school compound. Luckily, the driver saw
him waving and stopped the bus on time. The parent passed the bag to the driver and it happened
to be one of the pupil’s bag which was left unnoticed. The driver apologised and continued with the
journey looking relieved.

convenient for me.
(b)(iii) I would like to join Be A Baker because I enjoy eating cakes and cookies. I always wanted to
learn and now I would not waste this opportunity. Moreover, I can help my mother to bake cakes
and cookies for festive seasons and celebrations. It is very proud of me for others to taste my cakes
and cookies. Furthermore, the fee is reasonable and the Magic Cake House is near my house which is
very convenient for me.

Hani and May are neighbours and they share the same hobby that is keeping cats as their pets. Hani
named her cat Comel and May’s cat is called Furry. They always take good care of their pet cats.
Every evening, they meet at the garden near their houses to talk and exchange ideas about cats.
Comel and Furry like playing with each other too.
One day, while Hani and May were in the park, a bird flew by and perched on a branch of a tree.
Comel heard the bird chirping and tried to find the sound. Then, Comel saw it and climbed up quickly
to catch the bird but it flew away. Unfortunately, Comel was frightened to come down from the tree
and started mewing. At the time, May’s brother passed by and saw what had happened. He
immediately helped to save Comel from the tree.
Finally, May’s brother handed Comel to Hani. She thanked him for saving Comel and she breathed a
sigh of relief to see her cat. Hani hugged Comel tightly and she was grateful that Comel did not hurt.
May was happy and proud of his brother for his braveness.

(b) I would go to my uncle’s house in Terengganu because I have not been to Terengganu since my
uncle moved to his new house. Besides, staying in a double-storey bungalow by the sea will refresh
my mind and I believe the scenery would be amazing. I miss playing with my cousins too. We can
play and collect seashells on the beach. I am sure it would be fun.
I would go to my aunt's house in Pulau Pinang because I miss my aunt very much. Besides, I like
Pulau Pinang as I get the chance to go round the city. It would be fun staying in the apartment
viewing the scenery from the top floor. I cannot wait to play computer games and swim in the pool
with my cousins. We always have the best memory together.
I would go to my grandparents’ house in Sarawak because it is nice meeting the other families in the
longhouse. It is a great experience to meet different people with different culture in the longhouse.
Besides, I can go jungle trekking as it is hard to experience it in my city. The best activity is to collect
fruits in the orchard where I can eat fresh fruits.

PAPER 2/SECTION C
Siti and Aminah are good friends and neighbours. They always play games and revise their lessons
together. One Saturday evening, Siti went to Aminah’s house to play congkak as it is their hobby.
While playing, they heard a bell ringing outside the house. They were excited as they knew that it
was from an ice cream vendor.
Therefore, they decided to have an ice cream each. While waiting for Aminah to get some money,
Siti looked out the windows and to her surprise she saw a poor girl standing near the vendor looking
at the children. The girl looked sad because she had no money to buy the ice cream. Siti pitied her.
Then, Siti and Aminah quickly went out and bought an ice cream. They gave it to the girl. She was
happy to have it and thanked them for their kindness. Later, they ate the delicious ice cream under a
tree near their house. From that day onwards, they become good friends.

Puan Fatima is a mother of two hard working and obedient sons. Her husband passed away a year
ago, so she had to work hard to earn a living for the family.
Every morning, Puan Fatima would wake up early to cook nasi lemak. She would pack them in

When all the nasi lemak were sold, the boys would return home to give all the money they earned to
their mother.

PAPER 2/SECTION C
Last Friday, the Science teacher, Puan Rozita asked her year 6 pupils to make pickled papaya as their
science project. The pupils were excited. They brought the things they needed such as a papaya, a
container, a knife, some vinegar, some sugar, a cutting board and a spoon.
After that, they started their project. The girls peeled the papaya and cut it into small thin pieces.
Then, they dried the pieces of papaya and put them into a clean container. Next, they added some
vinegar and sugar and stirred the mixture well with a spoon.

After a few days, the pickled papaya was ready. They could not wait to opened container. They
tasted it and it was delicious. They gave some pickled papaya to Puan Rozita and their friends to
taste. Puan Rozita praised them for doing well in their project.

Last week, a group of children visited an old woman in her old wooden house. She had nothing in
the house as she was very poor. Besides, she was too weak to clean the house. The children felt pity
for her, so they decided to help her.
First, the boys repaired the house. They replaced the broken and old wooden planks with new ones.
After that, they painted the walls. Later, the girls came and cleaned the compound. They threw away
dried leaves and swept the floor. They also tidied the house and added some furniture to make the
house comfortable.
Finally, they finished their work. The old woman was grateful and thanked them for their kindness.
The children were happy to have done a good deed.

One afternoon, while Mak Limah was cooking in the kitchen in her wooden house in the village, a
burglar climbed through the front window of the house. No one saw what had happened. He
ransacked the house and stole what he could.
After stealing, he sneaked out quietly to prevent from others to see him. However, a gaggle of geese
outside the house saw him running away started to make some noise. They chased and pecked the
burglar. The burglar was frightened and shouted for help.
Mak Limah and her neighbours heard the shout and ;ime out immediately to see what had
happened. They -aught the burglar and sent him to the police station. Mak Limah was happy and
proud of her geese. She then later fed them with grains.

there was no rubbish left on the ground. Then, they went home. They were tired but enjoyed their
trip to the bird park. Encik Amin promised his children to take them there again.
