Minimum PPE Requirements – NKW

The following is the minimum PPE required for Area 2 at the Kwinana Nickel Refinery and
should be provided by the organisation that employs the Technician/Contractor.

All Technicians need to arrive ready to work with the below items, any delays in Technicians
sourcing these items are not chargeable.

 Protective Clothing: Hi-Vis long sleeve shirt or overalls with reflective stripes, long trousers
with reflective stripes. Sleeves rolled down and buttoned at cuffs. Shirts are to be tucked in
and only the very top button is permitted to be undone. When in Classified Hazardous Areas
jackets should be anti-static or made from 100% natural fibres.
 Safety Footwear: Steel toecap work boots in good condition with no
defects to the outer material.
 Safety Helmet: In good condition with a chin strap that must be
worn anytime you leave the ground (including stairs).
 Hearing Protection: Class 5 Earmuffs or Class 5 Corded Earplugs.
(Earplugs available onsite)
 Gloves: To be worn at all times in Area 2. Not mandatory in Area 1.
 Eye Protection: Safety glasses must be worn at all times. If the Technician chooses tinted
glasses they still must carry clear safety glasses as these are mandatory in plant
buildings and selected areas during periods of low light.
 Escape Mask: This is provided by NKW Security on entry and
must be carried at all times in a pouch or bag.

Required Training
Candidates must complete the BHP Global Induction, Nickel West Online Induction and Kwinana
Orientation prior to arrival on site.
