Dear District 102 Families,

Although we currently have no confirmed cases of Coronavirus in D102, we have decided to

close all District 102 schools to students beginning Tuesday, March 17 through Monday,
April 6. We have a tentative return to school date of Tuesday, April 7. This decision was made
to safeguard the health and wellness of students, staff, and the community. Please note, this is a
dynamic situation and the return to school date may need to change as new information is
learned.

The Lyons Township superintendents have been in communication and collaborated on our
closure plans across districts. We encourage you to continue to monitor your emails, as well as
the district and building websites to keep current. We recognize the hardship this may cause
many families and encourage you to support each other, as well as neighbors, etc., who may need
assistance during this time.

There is a great deal of information to share with families and I have done my best to organize
the information in an easy-to-read format. Please read all the information and contact your
building principal with any questions you may have. We will also be posting updates on the
district website.

● Friday, March 13: Technology Access

Families with students in grades PK-3 should complete the form or contact their child’s
school if you do not have a computer or iPad at home with access to the internet.
Families with students in grades 3-8 should complete the form or contact their child’s
school if they do not have access to the internet at home.

Please click here to complete the form if you do not have access to a computer or you do
not have internet access at home.

● Monday, March 16: Full Student Day

Students will attend school for a full day (half-day for half-day programs). Teachers will
preview various resources and materials students may need to access during these
Alternative Learning days.

● Tuesday, March 17: Non-Student Attendance Day

Teachers will be finalizing plans for at-home, alternative learning projects, and activities.
This may include packets of activities and / or various online learning resources. The
teachers will email parents regarding these at-home assignments. Since students will not
be in school on Tuesday, March 17, there is no expectation to complete any online or
learning activity on this day; the at-home activities will start on Wednesday, March 18.

● Wednesday, March 18: Alternative Learning Day

The State of Illinois requires a minimum of five hours of learning activities to be
considered a student attendance day. Therefore, District 102 has established 9:00 a.m. -
2:00 pm as the student learning day. While students will not be receiving direct
instruction for 5 hours from a teacher, students will be expected to complete assignments
or other learning activities. Teachers will be expected to actively engage students for two
hours of that time each day and will communicate their availability to families. Teachers
will also monitor emails and other communication tools such as Google Classroom,
SeeSaw, Google Docs, etc. throughout each day should students or families have
questions. We recognize that not every child will have an adult to sit with them and help
with their work, but we ask families to make their best effort to have their children
participate. Completion of the assigned activities will be the evidence used to mark a
child as present for that day.

● Thursday and Friday, March 19 and 20 - Alternative Learning Days

● Week of March 23 - 27 - SPRING BREAK

No School. Students are not required to complete any at-home learning activities during
the scheduled Spring Break period.

● Monday, March 30 - Non-Student Attendance Day

This day will be used as an Institute Day for teachers. Students will not be expected to
complete Alternative Learning Day activities on this day.

● Tuesday, March 31 through Monday, April 6 - Alternative Learning Days

● Tuesday, April 7- Tentative Return to School

(Please watch your emails and the district website for updated information.)

We recognize that you and your children may have many questions about COVID-19,
Coronavirus or be wondering why schools and communities may need to close in the wake of
this pandemic. To help you in these conversations we offer the below resources:

Please know that there is no playbook for how to handle a global pandemic and we are doing our
best to make decisions that are in the best interest of our students and staff in a very fluid and
fast-moving situation. We will continue to be in contact with the Illinois and Cook County
Departments of Public Health, as well as our partner school districts and our local villages as we
continue to make the best decisions possible.

Again, beginning Tuesday, March 17, schools will be closed through April 6 with a tentative
reopen date of April 7. Before and after school care will not be available in District buildings
during this time and would look to resume on April 7. Please watch your email and the District
website for ongoing updates.
