Is China About to Overtake the US for World Leadership

The article did a good job at establishing the main points and arguments for the topic. I agree
with most of the arguments given in this article. Namely that it is better to foster a stronger trade
relationship between US and China rather than make it a competition between them. This also applies
to other countries who are leading in World Trade Leadership. This is so because, fostering better
relationships with other countries would eventually lead to better trade deals, better trade policies and
better economies for all the participating countries.

But similar to everything that we do, we should always practice caution and professional
skepticism especially when it comes to China. It is not new to many that China has a history of trade
malpractices and very harsh trade conditions wherein they take advantage of other desperate nations. It
is also true, despite in our current age wherein information and communication is very accessible, China
still shies away or tries to keep itself isolated from the rest of the world. This is evident by how the
government bans certain services and products from being used in China like Facebook, Google Apps
and YouTube so that the government may control what their citizens see or read in the internet.

As what is said on the article, China is now currently opening its borders while the US, with its
new government, is closing theirs. Given this scenario and adding to what I have said above, I don’t’
think that this is enough for China to be able to overtake the US for World Trade Leadership since I think
that China won’t fully and truly open itself for trade in order to protect itself and in order to maintain its
control over their economy, people and government.
