Manhattan Waterfront Project George Washington Bridge Bus Station

Redevelopment Project
George Washington Bridge Bus Station is located on
property owned by the Port Authority of New York/New
Jersey, the largest publicly owned authority in the U.S.

Built in 1909, this historic New York City-owned Battery

Maritime Building located on the waterfront of lower
Manhattan will be transformed into a public accessible
space and a boutique hotel with a rooftop bar and
restaurant. The planned redevelopment of this
landmark is a complement to many of NYC’s key land
use initiatives.
This project will transform the 1960’s Bus Station into a
21st century retail destination and transit hub in Upper
Manhattan, to better serve the thousands of daily
commuters that pass through the station, as well as the
numerous employees and students of nearby Columbia
University and surrounding community.

The Project is one of the components of Mayor

Bloomberg’s Vision for a 21st Century Lower
Manhattan, East River Waterfront Esplanade and Piers
Existing Proposal
Project (“ERW”). The ERW was initiated in 2004 by the
Department of City Planning in cooperation with NYC Some of the anchor retail tenants include United States
