 Do you think waste needs proper management in your area?

Yes, we think that waste produced in household and others area need to proper management with
effective waste management policy. If every family maintains this policy, they will enjoy healthy life.
All the people especially, women and children suffers most from odor creates from waste.

 Ward no-1 is not so developed and there are no waste management system and drainage
system. As a part of the Feasibility Study, do you suggest any idea how you want to create
waste management system and policy.

There is no specific area to dump daily waste and no exact place for final dumping of waste. This is
the right time to take initiative for waste management in Ward no-1. As there are so many unused
land against 50,000 thousand population. Ward number 01 is divided into two parts namely joinkathi
and Bohalgasiya including 2600 voter in Joinkathi and 1800 Voter in Bohalgasiya. New settlements
are made constantly. Patuakhali Municipality and Ward Councilor of Ward No-1 are trying to acquire
66 acre of land and will go for contract with land owner very soon near phultola khal for waste
management and they wants to create income source from waste. Creation of dumping area and
final dumping infrastructure, waste energy are the prime demands of locals. There is no waste
segregation system or different color coated waste bin. In before Municipality provide a waste bin to
fill the daily household waste and charged monthly TK. 50. These bins are not so strong. Majority are
destroyed. According to all of the people from community came into the FGD are agreed that there
are no awareness building on waste management, If necessary meeting, poster, seminar, and also
create a committee or creation of team from five to ten household for awareness. They want to
create a committee of 10 members, 10 to 15 teams. Every week three or two day’s two houses they
will visit every house for awareness about waste management.

 How community can involve in waste management with municipality.

From January 2020, Ward Councilors of Ward no-1 are going to collect household waste from 600
household and they already formed a committee consists of 15 member. Already 1 number ward has
a 15 members woman committee ‘’Poor community life improvement project’’ in the project
provide training such as nursing, cooking, computer, parlar, etc. According to all and ward councilor
women, involvement is very necessary for waste management because of woman’s need to proper
Waste conservation almost 70% wastes comes from household. Whole Municipality budget of TK
1200000 (Before the amount was BDT 800000) for every month to manage waste in the
municipality. Municipality earns only TK 200000 from waste. If they can manage to increase more
household, they will earn more. So they need a strong and effective policy for Waste. Community
people wants planed waste management project in the area they will contribute in the committee
and they will provide any other help.
