Rudraksh is formed by association of two words, 'RUDRA' and 'AKSHA" . Rudra is the name of Lord Shiva. Aksha
means 'tear'. It is said that the plant of Rudraksh is originated from the tear drops of Lord Shiva. As per the vedic
scriptures. Rudraksh can nullify the effects of malefic planets to a great extent. Shastras say Rudraksh of any mukhis
can never do any harm to the wearer unlike Navratnas, which have to be carefully chosen. No other necklace or
bead is so auspicious and powerful as Rudraksh.

Rudraksh come in different mukhis or the clefts or furrows on the surface. Shastras speak of 1 to 38 mukhis but
normally 1 to 14 mukhis are used for astrological benefits. Each bead has a different effect on you, depending on the
number of mukhis it has. Each Rudraksh is very individualistic and has to be carefully matched with one's horoscope
for it to be beneficial.

is believed that rudraksh has originated from the tears of lord Shiva. Rudraksh have tremendous energy and power.
Rudraksh is best known for its biomedical properties and in controlling stress, hypertension and blood pressure.

Tests for a Genuine Rudraksha

To meet the ever increasing demand of different faceted beads, traders have started manufacturing rarely faceted
beads such as the one faced Rudraksha body (The Ek Mukhi Rudraksha). Read more about such practices and
artificial price rise in the Faq section here..

Beads of Arecanut, Nutmeg or Tulsi are used to fashion Rudraksha Beads. In such circumstances the individual who
wants to buy a genuine Rudraksha is in a quandry. There are two full proof methods of testing a genuine Rudraksha:

a. Break the bead, see if the Rudraksha seeds are present therein and send the bead for a chemical analysis.
The Chemical properties of the beads have been given in the Chemical composition of the Rudraksha beads.

b. The other is to find out whether the beads exhibit properties like inductance, capacitance, conduction of
electric current etc.

The test wherein the Rudraksha Bead dips in water (commonly known as water test) is not scientifically dependable
because:

a. Some traders dehydrate the beads so that they sink in water.

b. Secondly all beads and seeds denser than water sink.

Still it is one of the most popular methods to test the beads and many times gives accurate results.

The copper coin test

It is generally held that if Rudraksha beads are placed between two copper coins it should rotate slightly. This is due
to the physical and magnetic properties of the Rudraksha beads. This test requires a high level of expertise. If you are
not sure in buying a one faced round Rudraksha bead then it is better to go for a cashew nut shaped bead.

At least they are original and have the same physical, chemical and magnetic properties of the round bead. The rest
of the beads are comparatively easily available.

houses contain different numbers from 1 to 12. These numbers represents different Signs (e.g. 1 represent Aries, 5

under the Lordship of planet Mars, Sun and Jupiter respectively). Now, in astrology some planets are friends to each
other, some planets are enemies to each other and some planets are average to each other. When a planet is
situated in the sign of his friend planet, he use to give good results related to that house and if a planet is situated in
the sign of his enemy planet, he use to cause tribulations related to that house.

What is the Vedic Procedure to Energize (Praanpratishtha) a Rudraksha?

One can adopt either of the procedures to energize a Rudraksha.

Shiva Purana describe Rudraksha's origin as Lord Shiva's tears. He had been meditating for many years for the
welfare of all creatures. On opening the eyes, hot drops of tears rolled down and the mother earth gave birth to
Rudraksha trees. Lord Siva has many aspects indicated by His 1,008 names Lord Siva is responsible for creation,
evolution and dissolution. Lord Siva dances creation out of existence at the end of time and then after an
appropriate time He destroys the silence itself by dancing and the activity of His dance gives rise to the appearance
of Narayana and causes creation again.

Through the grace of Lord Siva we are able to come to a state where we stop identifying with the Relative aspect of
ourselves and come to know our true identity as one with the Absolute. This is the death of death itself. This is
immortality. It is the total destruction of all limitation and all sorrow in our lives and this miracle can only be brought
about by the power of Lord Siva. That is why He is called Lord Siva the Auspicious One. He destroys our limitations
and our fears. He is the very embodiment of total kindness. He is the Lord of Yogis presiding over Transcendental
Knowledge.Om Nama Sivaya.

Lord Siva is also known as Rudra and the Lord of Tears. The meaning of the name Rudra is traceable to the Vedas and
said to be derived from rud (dravayita) he who drives away sin or suffering.

Eight different aspects of nature are the direct manifestations of Rudra and they are Earth, Water, Fire, Air, Space,
The Sun, The Moon and the Life Force. Anything good and auspicious, anything that keeps us healthy and happy and
anything that helps us attain freedom from pain and misery is Rudra.

Sri Rudram is one of the five scriptural texts chosen by the ancients for constant repetition and meditation. The five
are the Upanishads of one's own Sakha, The Bhagavad Gita, The Vishnu Sahasranama, Sri Rudram and Purusha
Suktam.

Vedic Literature states

As by pouring water at the root of a tree, all its branches are nourished, by pleasing Sri Rudra through Rudrajapa, all
the Devas are pleased. One attains Bhukti and Mukti, enjoyment of life as well as freedom from the ills of the world
by the chanting of Sri Rudram with devotion

To the Rudra who is in fire, who is in water, who is in trees and plants, who has entered into the entire universe, to
that Rudra let our salutations go

Vedic Literature shows that the Rudraksa Bead was created from the tears of Rudra, the fierce form of Lord Siva thus
endowing it with medicinal and Spiritual Powers. Each of the many types of Rudraksa Beads have a governing Diety
and specific powers and properties.

Two of the most important rules to be observed in the Asta avarana that are the eight aids or protections are the

The Rudraksha Mala/Rudraksha Rosary has been used since time immemorial by Yogis to attain Siddhi (special
occult powers) and the grace of God. Rudraksha bead is a bead with special powers and is also known as the bead
of the Yogis/Yogic bead. It is extremely beneficial for people who have a strict meditation discipline and also for
those who want to develop concentration and Yogic Powers. It is however very important that you consecrate and
energize the Rudraksha Rosary and the Rudraksha Beads in your name with special mantras to derive optimum
benefits.

For the chanting of Shiva Mantra the rosary of Rudraksh is the best as propounded by the ancient religious and
tantrik texts. It has 108+1 beads and each Rudraksha bead is energized with the Mantras relating to Lord Shiva. This
is why the Rudraksha Rosary is very effective. All Mantras of Lord Shiva can only be chanted with the Rudraksh
rosary. Here you will find one method of consecrating and energizing the Rudraksh Mala. There are other methods
also. This method is comparatively easily and can done by everybody. Remember self help is the best help. It is
preferable that you consecrate your rosary yourself. In case due to certain circumstances you cannot- get the same
done by someone knowledgeable.

A consecrated Rudraksh Mala has got tremendous powers. If one uses it for meditation and mantra chanting it
should be consecrated properly otherwise much of the beneficial effects will be lost.

The mantras for consecrating other faceted beads are different. This consecration applies only to a Rudraksha
rosary that has five faceted Rudraksha beads/Panch Mukhi Rudraksha Beads. This method is disclosed and
explained for your benefit. And don't forget that: Hired persons do not pay. Do your work yourself.

Astro Journey will shortly upload the audio files of the mantras so that you have no problem in pronunciation of the
mantras. In case you have taken initiation from a Guru and the Guru has given other mantras then you should use
those mantras.

How to get the Maximum Benefits from your Rudraksha Rosary

 Keep Separate Rudraksha Rosaries for mantra chanting and wearing.

 After Mantra chanting wear the mantra chanting rosary for at least 5 minutes and let your body absorb the
positive energy generated by mantra chanting.

 Make sure that the Rudraksha Rosary does not touch the ground as this will make it impure.

A Rudraksha Rosary of 108 Five Faceted Rudraksh Beads

Rudraksha popularly known as the Utrasum Bead Tree is botanically known as Elaiocarpus/Elaeocarpus Ganitrus
Roxb. It's medicinal and divine properties have been known from times immemorial. It is said that only one who has
the divine blessings of Lord Shiva (The destroyer in the Trinity of Gods) gets the opportunity of wearing this divine
bead. Rudra means Shiva and Aksh means eye.

The Legend:

According to the religious text Devi Bhagwat Puran there was a Demon known as Tripurasur who was very strong
and had divine energy and power. Due to these qualities he became proud and started to trouble deities and sages.
No one was able to defeat this strong demon in war. On seeing his immoral actions Brahma, Vishnu and Other
deities prayed to the Devadhidev Mahadeva Shiva (The greatest, lord of Lords Shiva) to destroy evil Tripurasur. Lord
Shiva closed his eyes and meditated for some time. When he opened his lotus shaped eyes tears fell from them on
the earth. Wherever his tears fell the Rudraksha tree Grew. The fruits that grow on this tree are known as Rudraksha
Beads. Lord Shiva then used his deadly divine weapon known as Aghor and destroyed Tripurasur.

According to another religious text Shiva Mahapuran, Parvati the divine consort of Lord Shiva asked him the origin of
Rudraksha. On hearing her question Shiva said that he did penance for a thousand years. Tired of keeping his eyes
closed for so long, Shiva opened them. A few teardrops fell to the ground and from these tears, the Rudraksha tree
was born. The seeds of the tree were distributed on the earth.

Religious significance of the Rudraksha Bead:

The mantra of Lord Shiva Mahamrityunjaya if chanted can only be done so on a Rudraksha rosary/Rudraksha Mala.
Lord Shiva's mantra cannot be chanted on any other bead. Shiva says in different religious texts:

 Individuals of all castes, ashramas, varnas should wear the Rudraksha bead. Brahmins should wear it after
consecrating the bead with the appropriate mantra.

 The individual who wears the Rudraksha with devotion is like Rudra (Shiva) himself.

 The man wearing the Rudraksha is Rudra himself. If he drinks then Rudra drinks. The food he eats is
equivalent to the food partaken by the deities. All his sins are alleviated.

 One who feels any shame in wearing this divine bead can never be free from the cycle of birth and death
even after taking a million births.

 One who criticizes a Rudraksha wearer is a sinner.

 No pleasure is greater in the world then wearing a Rudraksh.

 One who wears the Rudraksh bead is a divine being and all his sins get destroyed.

Points to remember while wearing Rudraksha

After having studied rudraksh deeply for more than 1yr now i personally FEEL there are some very extremely
important points which should be followed/remembered with wearing of rudraksh, these are listed below ... All of
the below mentioned points may NOT be rules (to be followed with rudraksh) since some of below mentioned
points are my personal suggestions or viewpoints so i leave this for the reader to decide .......

• Energise/Pran Prathistha rudraksh from a brahmin pandit in a Shiv temple & then wear ur energised rudrash for
first time immediately after its Pran Prathistha puja.

• Before u wear ur energised rudraksh bead/mala for first time make sure u follow the vidhi of saying the mantras
as laid down in scriptures.
• Hereafter every time u remove or wear ur rudraksh (after its puja) say om-namah-shivah minimum 3times or
11times .. mansic jap is ok.

• Remove rudraksh before engaging in sex, eating non-veg, drinking alchol, &/or attend participate in some one's
death funeral procession &/or when visiting the cemetery or cremation ground.

• After u come back from attending participating in some one's death funeral procession &/or visiting the cemetery
or cremation ground, then 1st thing u should do is take a complete water bath. Make sure u wet ur head &
forehead & neck regions thoroughly with water and then wear rudraksh.

• Make sure there is no rahu kaal & yamghat kaal at time of buying a new mukhi rudraksh bead/mala & the time of
doing its Pran Prathistha puja & also at the time of wearing energised rudraksh bead/mala for the first time,do pls
refer to panchag.

• Never touch rudraksh with dirty hands.

• Never touch rudraksh with pointer fingers.

• Do not keep displaying ur rudraksh to any one & everyone, it should be hidden well below ur clothing, I feel
rudraksh is not a object of fashion to display to everyone.

• If at all by mistake u have touched ur rudraksh with dirty hands then pour some good amount of ganga jal on
rudraksh & ask forgiveness from lord shiva & then touch rudraksh to lord shiva photo or shivling & then wear it,it is
good to keep ganga jal 1 or 2 bottles handy at home.

• After act of sex take a complete water shower if possible before u put ur rudraksh back again.

• 14 mukhi rudraksh needs special care & handling as it is the most very aupucious.

• Navratri, shivaratri, mahashivratri & eclispe are auspiciouse times to dharan rudraksh, there may be some more
however i am not aware of it.

• If for some reason u are not able to dharan/wear ur rudraksh then keep it in a small box at puja place & offer daily
namaskar with om-namah-shivah jap.

• Sometimes mistakes may happen with rudraksh after all we are all humans however a person should remember
not to repeat those same mistakes again.

• Always buy rudraksh from ur own money & not other people's borrowed money, also same applies when u give
dakshna to panditiji after rudraksh Pran Prathistha,in case if u do borrow money then make sure u return that
amount which u used for purpose of rudraksh, also i feel that one should not bargain when buying rudraksh
bead/mala.

• Get ur rudraksh bead/mala re energised thru its Pran Prathistha puja once every year at maha shivaratri or
shivratri.

• It is suggested that u have strong thread to place rudraksh in, or use multiple strands of thread to make it strong
so that thread does not break off anytime & rudraksh does not fall to ground.

• Rudraksh beads or malas should not be exchanged or interchanged after u dharan/wear it.

• Read more about rudraksh to increase ur knowledge on it however also make sure u dont get confused by reading
from too many different sources.

• It is suggested that brush that u use for cleaning rudraksh beads should be used only for 1 time use & then
disposed off, everytime use a new clean small brush.
• There are various amrit yog & siddhi yog timings displayed in jyotish magazines & panchang,if one wishes then
one could follow these timings for rudraksh puja or wear rudrash(for 1st time) during these times.

• ALWAYS REMEMBER THE AMOUNT OF BENEFIT U GET FROM UR RUDRAKSH WILL ALSO DEPEND ON THE
AMOUNT OF RESPECT & CARE U SHOW TOWARDS UR RUDRAKSH BEAD..RUDRAKSH IS LORD SHIVA...
OM-NAMAH-SHIVAH.

I personally feel one good book on rudraksh is "Power of Rudraksh by Kamal Seetha".

Rudraksha A divine bead to human community provided by the Supreme Power “Lord Shiva”. The Lord Shiva from
his tear created it. “At the time of the universal deluge and destruction of all things, my eyes were opened for

Rudraksha And High Blood Pressure

A lot have been heard about the medical properties of Rudraksha beads. One of

the uses in Ayurvedic healing is in the treatment of high blood pressure. This

is how it is done. We need a good quality 5 facets Rudraksha beads. Good quality

means the bead must look and feel solid when we handle it. The vertical grooves
on the seed must be well defined and the ridges on both side of the line should

be well formed. There must be no sign of insect attack and the bigger seed is

preferred over the smaller beads for this purpose. I have seen one the size of

the ping pong ball and the ownner has zealously shown me and kept it in a nice

wooden box. Put the bead in a glass of water and leave it over night. The next

morning take out the seed dry and keep it in a box. The water is ready for

consumption. Western medication should be continued as usual.

Rudraksha Mala

Have you ever wondered if what you know about Rudraksha is accurate? Consider

the following paragraphs and compare what you know to the latest info on mukhi

Rudraksha.

Rudraksha Mala

Today post is about Rudraksha mala and some tips on choosing the right quality.
It have been known from antiquity to have many special powers. Benefits are

extolled in the Siva Purana and other Hindu scriptures. It is said to exert a

beneficial vibratory influence on the physical body and on the subtle spiritual

energies, or pranas, of the wearer. They are said to provide protection from

many kinds of negative vibrational influences, as well as physical harm and

disease. Other great claims have been made regarding their benefits as can be

seen from the numerous user testimonials .

You can see that there's practical value in learning more about rudraksha. Can

you think of ways to apply what's been covered so far?

The bead is actually a seed and is said to be of a substance that contains all

five elements in perfect balance: earth, water, fire, air, ether. There are

basically two kinds of rudraksha beads: those that are heavy, dense, and will

sink in water (a very durable kind), and those that are lightweight and float in

water (more porous and less durable). Smoothness and roundness also determine

the quality of the bead. Genuine rudraksha have well-defined "faces" or spaces

between distinct lines around the bead. The number of faces on a bead determines

certain specific qualities inherent in the bead. A rudraksha with five faces is

Rudra himself. Its name is Kalagni. It is lordly. It bestows salvation and

achievement of all desired objects. It is recommended that the rudraksha mala be

kept in a clean place and not touch the feet or floor. It is advisable to make a

cloth bag which can be used both as storage and to hold the mala while doing

japa.

Nepal near the foothill of the Himalayas produces the most high quality

Rudraksha folowed by Indonesia. Cost of high quality rudraksha beads is well

founded. Only a very specific climate will produce a tree that yields a small,
hard seed. The seed must then be buried in the ground for at least two years in

order to soften the outer shell in order to provide the least risk of breakage

during the shelling process. The beads are sorted according to size and quality

and then hand drilled. The smaller the bead, the higher the cost. A matched set

of small rudraksha beads is much more expensive than a set of larger beads. A

good size is 7 to 9 millimeters in diameter, with a cost of about $100 or more.

A mala of selected quality beads consisting of 1 to 14 facets can easily cost

not less than USD2,000.

There's a lot to understand about Rudraksha. We were able to provide you with

some of the facts above, but there is still plenty more to write about in

subsequent articles.

Rudraksha

The only way to keep up with the latest about rudraksha is to constantly stay on

the lookout for new information. If you read everything you find about

rudraksha, it won't take long for you to become an influential authority.

Rudraksha trees have large evergreen broad leaves which grows in the area from

the Gangetic Plain to the foothills of Himalayas. Rudraksha trees are also found

in middle areas of Nepal. Rudraksha seeds are covered by an outer shell of blue

color when fully ripe, therefore, Rudraksha seeds are also called as blueberry

beads. It is also used for treatment of various diseases in Indian traditional

medicine.

Rudraksha in Sanskrit literally means "the eye of Rudra" or "red-eyed", from

rud, "to cry," and aksha, meaning "eye". In one story by Śaivites, God himself

(Śiva) shed a tear, on viewing the misfortunes of humanity. This single tear
became the first Rudraksha tree, and a sign of his compassion. In another story,

while destroying the asura fortress of Tripura (mythology), the seeds from Lord

Siva's eyes emerged to form rudraksha. Rudraksha literally stands for the eyes

of Lord Shiva implying that it was "pleasant to the eyes of Lord" (Shiva), and

hence it is named in his honour. Traditionally it is considered sacred and are

said to have diverse mystical powers, including being an amulet against evil

forces.

Rudraraka beads are the material from which sacred garlands (108 beads in

number) or rosaries are made. In essence, rudraksha is a Saivite rosary. They

are used for japa mala. Rudraraka is a common aid to worship in Śaivism.

Rudraksha mala are worn by Hindu monks, and many devotees wear a single bead

hung from their neck. The use of rudraraksha can distinguish denomination

amongst Hindus. Vaishnavites use beads made of tulsi while Saivites use

rudraraksa. In Tantric Buddhism rudraksha beads are sometimes used for the

practice of wrathful deities.

Rudraksha has special qualities to identify the type of food. In ancient Indian

culture, yogis divided the food into 3 categories - Positive Pranic, Negative

Pranic and Neutral/Zero Pranic. When the Rudraksha mala is being held above the

foods, it'll rotate clocwise for positive pranic, anticlockwise for negative

Pranic and pendulum action for zero pranic foods. A person can use this as a

test to identify true Rudraksh (If the person holds it over plain water it will

rotate clockwise and if they add one drop of some chemical used to clean the

floor, it will change to rotate in anticlockwise)

Truthfully, the only difference between you and rudraksha experts is time. If

you'll invest a little more time in reading, you'll be that much nearer to
expert status when it comes to rudraksha.

There are many different varieties of Rudraksh available in the world divided

based on the grooves in the mukhi Rudraksh like Pachamukha (5 faces), Gowri

shankar (2 face), Eka mukha (1 face) etc. Each one has its own individual

capabilities when it is being worn by any person. Rudraksh has the capabilities

of holding the energy of the person who is wearing it, unlike Spadika (which has

only cooling effect on the body) or anything other. There is a myth that this

one should not be worn by people who are consuming non-vegetarian, couples and

women during mensus periods - but they are not true. Anyone can wear it any

time.

The Rudraksh seeds are brittle in nature and so it should be avoided from

chemical and toileteries Wearing Rudraksha mala cleanses a person's aura.

Origin & Myths Rudraksha has its etymological origin in the Sanskrit words,

‘Rudra’ and ‘Aksha’. ‘Rudra’ is another name for Lord Shiva, and ‘aksha’ means

teardrop. Mythological tales have it that the Rudraksha plant was born out of

Lord Shiva’s tear drops. Ancient scriptures, such as ‘Shiva Purana’, ‘Padma

Purana’ and ‘Srimad Bhagavad’ mention the greatness and wonderful powers of the

Rudraksha. For thousands of years, they have adorned the bodies of sages and

saints leading a fearless life in far-flung frontiers seeking enlightenment and

liberation.

According to the Ayurvedic medical system, medicinal value and biomedical

properties of wearing Rudraksha are positive effect on the heart and nerves,

relieve from stress, anxiety, depression, palpitations and wavering thoutht or

lack of concentration. It is also known for its anti-ageing effect,

electromagnetic and inductive properties. The use of Rudraksha seeds in people

with high blood pressure have been found have beneficial effect.

It never hurts to be well-informed with the latest on rudraksha. Compare what

you've learned here to future articles so that you can stay alert to changes in

the area of rudraksha.
