SSLP Reflection

I desire to empower the residents, and help them have fun. I hope to make them happy. I

am working at Walnut Creek, an Alzheimer’s care facility in Evansville Indiana. I chose this

facility to do my senior project over because I love bonding with the elderly, and I enjoy

psychology. Having fun with elderly people is very fun. I chose this organization over many

other organizations because it has to do with what I wish to pursue in the future.

Throughout this process I have done numerous things for this project. I went to the career

fair and didn’t find any organizations that I wished to pursue. I found Walnut Creek and loved it

so I set up my volunteering. I created my proposal and gave it to Mrs. Kaiser. Then I created the

work plan and turned it in. I am logging my hours as I go. I built the website and I am continuing

to do it. I purchased the supplies on November 30th of 2019. I started getting the supplies

together on December 2nd of 2019. I started planning the activities on November 6th 2019. I

schedule the activities ​crafts and events, including dates on November 11th 2019. Then I am

going to actually start doing the activities on 3/17/20. I did run into some issues as I went, had

time for me to do the activity.

I met several new elderly people, workers, new friends, many new people. The elderly

people have made huge impacts on me, I am legally not allowed to disclose their names. But
they have inspired me to continue my line of work and to pursue my dreams of working in

psychology. One of the residents was a psychologist and has talked to me about various

psychology subjects, I enjoyed it very much. The workers I met have also impacted me in

various ways. These people are going to be very good for me in the future.

I have learned so much about myself. I handled this very well and enjoyed it thoroughly.

I realized that I am a very good problem solver. I am more of a leader due to this project. I loved

working with this facility and these residents. I realized that I wish to fix the situation that most

long term care facilities are in.

I feel that I am taking various things from this project. I am happy with my future now. I

am going to proceed with my future in the field of psychology. I am hoping to succeed in my

project and produce happiness among the jeriatric residents.
