Speech has always been part of every graduation and commencement exercises.

Stories to inspire
others, to motivate and to move graduates. Speech has a vital role to speak and express yourself.
Primarily, J.K Rowling provided an inspiring one where she made used of her experiences to make us
believe that failure is part of life and if you did not experienced any, then there is no point living your
life. Her personal stories produced a piece that would inspire individuals where in failure may come to
everyone at some point of their own life. Not just when they were a teen, a student but even when all
people had already grown up.

Through her true-to-life stories, she did not fail to inspire us, her story is visibly reflecting that to
someone who will read it would probably say that “it is relatable.” Her speech provided lessons that
are meant to be treasured and carried by someone who want to read it. It is worth-reading because it
would make you realized that in this world, nothing is perfect and most but not all has failed on
something because we are humans and it is innate.

They know her probably as J.K. Rowling, however, it is just her pen name. Her true name is Joanne
Rowling, born at Gloucestershire, England on July 31, 1965. She is raised by both British parents. Her
life as a wife and parent was not successful, however, she did not let it stop her to become a well-
known novelist. She is the woman behind the infamous novel series “Harry Potter”. Her life as a
battered wife, the death of her mother, and birth of her first child together with the divorce from her
first husband had put her in a gloomy and melancholic situation. All of these events enables her to put
up a speech that could really be motivating.

All in all, her speech is revolving about failure as a part of life and her own story itself. All throughout,
she did achieved her purpose to uplift others and she provided lessons that will change one’s
perspective with regards to failure.

Everything that she presented was astonishing, and everyone will definitely agree that she achieved
her goal and she provided lessons to her readers and her piece motivates spirits and what she wrote
brought new meaning to failure.

With regards to her work, she wrote it on July 5, 2008 and she presented it at the Harvard University
during Graduation Day. Different circumstances that she experienced helped herself to produced an
excellent work. She lived her early life with a lot of failures, however, she did not let it stop her from
reaching what she really wanted for herself. She stated that poverty is a factor as a state of her life
left her homeless and jobless but still she strove harder and harder. With those, she came up with a
very heart-warming work. The main issue that she have dealt with is poverty. She is aware that her
parents are already poor and she even considered her early life as dark one. Both the abusive society
and her abusive husband had brought her in a dark tunnel where lights are still far. Despite those
events, she managed to escape from it and she delivered a work of masterpiece.

In general, the text is circulating around her own story and she provided evidences like her own
experiences to enlighten her readers. A lot of people are still a victim of social issues that drags
someone down and even her cannot avoid it. Her lived experienced was not easy and to blame
someone will cause you nothing rather she herself worked her own way out. Her sad stories
personally had driven her to say that “failure in life is inevitable”. Everyone would totally agree with
this because life really is full of struggles and experiencing failure cannot be avoided. She lived her life
folly with all the holes on her and she define life in a way of being unafraid in facing hindrances.
Everything that she has presented will embark to the readers because she is someone to look up to
because she is a human who sees events as a step in making her own life. Understanding the context
will enable you to look at the brighter side of life, that despite every problem, there will always be a
solution that your hands has. We hold our own power to solve something that will stop us. The saying
“a seed needs light and a little storm in order to grow,” her being the seed who later on grew as a
strong and independent woman and mother who became successful.

As a part of her speech, she made mention about different claims to elaborate everything that she is
stating. One of her claim is about poverty, where in “Poverty entails fear and stress and sometimes
depression”. A claim that is worthy being defended because it is indeed true that most of the people
fear poverty as a state of life. Defining it, it is the state of lacking or not having something that a
human should primary have. Fearing it is common because poverty completely drags someone down,
trying to relate it with sadness provides a complete thought that when someone is already dragged
down, sadness would immediately took place and almost all aspects of someone’s life will be
immediately affected socially, mentally, and even physically. It is sad to see that the world today is still
facing poverty in almost all of the countries and families in this situation are having hard time to get
out from it, that is why J.K. Rowling should be adored because she pulled herself out from this
situation, though most of the people cannot handle this situation, poverty often leads to depression.
