Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

Good Morning Class!

Good morning Sir!

How’s your day?

We’re fine Sir…

Who can recall our last topic?

(Students raising their hands)

Yes ________________, Sir last meeting we discuss about

different Hand tools.

Very good,

Yes, Yesterday, we discussed about

“Different Hand tools and their use”

So, for us to recall and familiarized the topic

We discuss yesterday, I prepared some jumbled words
for each group, arranged the letter and complete
the puzzle to identify the name of the tools, pick up
the tools in the tool box , then match it in the appropriate
used of the given hand tools.

(Give the jumbled word, let the student do the activities)

(Students collaborate to each other

In performing the activities)

Very good class, you did it well, it’s means that

you well listened carefully and now your familiar
with the different hand tools and their use. So please
apply all of the lesson we learned as we go to
our succeeding topic.

3. UNLOCKING DIFFICULTIES:

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

Before we proceed, I have given you a list of

words to search and study right?

Yes Sir.
Ok, so what is Resistor?

(Students raising their hands)

Yes ________________,
Resistor - an electronic component that
is used to offer opposition to current in
an electrical circuit.
Very good, so it is an electronic component
that is used to offer opposition to current in
an electrical circuit.

How about Resistance?

(Students raising their hands)

Yes ________________,
Resistance - the opposition to the flow of
Electrons.
Very good ______, it is the opposition
to the flow of electrons.
How about you ______________,
What is Tolerance?
Tolerance Sir, is the fourth color in the 3-
band color coding that indicates the
percentage of deviation from its color coded
value
Very good. Later we will be going to
compute the tolerance of the resistor.
How you ___________, what is
Resistor color coding?
Resistor color coding is a scheme to
determine the value of resistors by color bands
printed on their bodies as code

Very good. So I have given to you

some list of words for us to make
easy understanding our discussion.

4. MOTIVATION: GUESS THE PICTURE

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

How can we identify the value of our currency?

(Students raising their hands)

Yes ______________
By the number written at the corner sir

Very good, anything else?

(Students raising their hands)

Yes ___________________
By their color

Very good. so also by their color.

Ok let’s try. I give you the color of the

current or new Philippines currency then
tell me the value.

(show the color written in the power point

Presentation) Green
(Students raising their hands)
Yes ______________
200 Sir
(show the presentation – 200 pesos image)
Very good

How about Red

(Students raising their hands)
Yes ______________
50 Sir
Very good (show the presentation – 50 pesos image)
How about Orange

(Students raising their hands)

Yes ______________
20 Sir

(show the presentation – 20 pesos image)

Very good

How about Yellow

(Students raising their hands)

Yes ______________
500 Sir
(show the presentation – 500 pesos image)
Very good

How about Light Blue

(Students raising their hands)

Yes ______________
1000 Sir

(show the presentation – 1000 pesos image)

Very good

How about Violet

(Students raising their hands)
Yes ______________
100 Sir

(show the presentation – 100 pesos image)

Very good

How about if the image of a hero that is in our money?

Corazon and Benigno Aquino?
(Students raising their
hands)
Yes ______________
500 Sir

Ok very good.

So there are many ways to identify

the value of our currency, by means of color,
image of the heroes, and the number.

B. PRESENTATION OF THE LESSON

1. Power Point Presentation: Perform Mensuration and Calculations / RESISTOR

2. Lecture by the teacher in Perform Mensuration and Calculations / RESISTOR.
3. Recitation or interactive participation between the teachers and the learners

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

Also in resistor class. So our lesson for today

Is about resistor, on how we are going to measure
and calculate their value.

But before that, again what is RESISTOR?

A resistor is a passive two-terminal electrical

component that implements electrical
resistance as a circuit element. In electronic
circuits, resistors are used to reduce current flow.

So what can the resistor do?

Sir, to reduce the flow of current

Very good, to reduce or to limit the flow of current.

The most commonly used electronic components in

the field are known as resistors.

(show the power point presentation of different

Types of resistor)

Resistors have different types in accordance

with the material used like carbon-composition
and the wire wound resistor.

According to construction, we have the

fixed resistor
(Students listening to the discussion)
and the variable resistor.(show the power
point presentation)
So what are they?
(One student raising his hand)

Ok _____________________
the fixed resistor and the variable
resistor Sir

Very good.

Resistors are very common and are the

cheapest electronic components in the
market for so many years. Their features are
so interesting and are very colorful. That’s why
resistors are very popular among students
studying electronics.

One distinct feature of this resistance – giving

component is the way its value is
determined. It uses a set of colors which follows
a code for its assumed resistance
expressed in OHMS.

Show the Image in power point

What can you see in the picture?

( One student raising his hand)

Yes, _____________
Sir, there is a color and value

What else?
the first resistor has 4 colors, the second is 5
colors and the third has 6 colors

Very good, yes the first resistor has

4 – band color code, second has 5 band color code
And the third has 6- band color code.

And by the use of the band we can compute

the resistance value of each resistor by following
the color coding scheme.

(show the color coding scheme)

So the first color band serves as the second digit

And the second color band serves as the second digit
And the third color band serves as the multiplier
And the fourth color band serves as the tolerance.

For EXAMPLE:
1. BROWN - BLACK - BROWN - GOLD
1 0 X10 ± 5%

10 X 10 = 100 OHMS ± 5%

2. Yellow – Violet – Yellow - Silver

4 7 10000 ± 10%

47 x 10000 = 470,000 Ohms ± 10%

or 470K ohms ±10%

another example,

What is the value of a resistor with the following colors:

Green - Black- orange – Gold?
Who wants to answer? (One students raising his hand)

Yes jane 50K ohms ± 5% Sir

Very good.

Another

Black, Brown, Red, Silver

(One students raising his hand)
Yes Cesar
100 ohms ± 10% Sir

Very good, how about if

5 is the value in the second band of the resistor
what is the color of the band?
(All students answered)
Green Sir
Very good.
What is the color of the tolerance representing ± 5%?

(students raising their hands)

Yes ______________
Gold Sir

Very good. Any question?

None Sir
