Student Portfolio Website Guidelines

The Creative Center hosts a student portfolio website for each of it’s graduating students.
Students are required to meet the following guidelines:

1) File structure: Students must name their root folder in the following manner:
“Lastname_Firstname” (note the capitalizations and the underscore). Students must name the
file they want to load first “index.html” (note the lowercase “i”). Never include extra files in
the root folder, such as the PSD files. Failure to follow these instructions will result in a grade
deduction and a delay in posting the site.

2) Compression: Students must use proper sizing and compression techniques to ensure quick
downloads and keep the size of their website to a minimum. Students should try to create a site
around 12 MB or less in size; student websites that are larger than 25 MB will not be posted.

3) Check your site: Students must check their site carefully. Double check sites for spaces and
unusual characters in file names. Move the completed site to the server and check it there, make
sure all links are active and visuals display properly. The internet server is case sensitive (your
MacBook isn’t) Resume.pdf in not the same as resume.pdf. Sites that do not function properly
will not be posted.

4) Review your site online: Students should carefully review their websites online, after they are
posted. If there are any mistakes, students will be given an opportunity to resubmit their entire
website for re-posting to the internet. In order to take advantage of this opportunity, students
must turn in their final websites on-time.

5) Suggestions on what material to include: A) Full portfolio of approved work.

B) Contact information/form (if you display your email online, it MUST be linked via “mailto:”)
C) PDF of resume (Should open in a new window or tab: target="_blank")
Optional) Bio, Awards won, URLs of posted websites.

6) Suitable material: Student work represents the student as well as the school. Websites that
contain inappropriate visuals or text will not be posted.

7) Production Methods: Students are encouraged to build responsive websites using HTML/
CSS/JS. Sites built using WordPress, Wix, SquareSpace, etc. cannot be hosted on Creative Center
server. You may be allowed to use these methods IF you purchase you own domain and web
hosting, please check with your instructor for details.

8) Possible features/techniques: Slideshow, Lightbox/Chocolat effect, disjoint rollover

portfolio, interactive sounds, CSS transitions/keyframe animations, and video (compressed
appropriately or hosted elsewhere and embedded).
