In memory of our Mother
Velma (Dietz) Long
It has been 1 year December 13th
You were a precious gift from God above, so much beauty, grace and love.
You touched our hearts in so many ways, your smile so bright even on the bad days.
You heard God’s whisper calling you home, you didn’t want to go and leave us alone.
You loved us so much, you held on tight, till all the strength was gone and you could
no longer fight.
He had called your name twice before, you knew you couldn’t make him wait anymore.
Morley So you gave your hand to God and slowly drifted away, knowing that with our love we
will be together again some day.

The Tri County Middle School Pom Team, coached by Kim Hayden, competed
in a major competition in Byron Center this weekend. They placed third in
Contemporary Dance and third in Jazz. The biggest honor was the last and most
prestigious award handed out, called the Tracy Weber Unity Award. TCMS Poms
won it for their teamwork, character, and skill.
This award was given the most attention of all awards, and the T.C. girls were
picked over such teams as Rockford Varsity, East Kentwood Varsity, and Jenison
Varsity. These kids and their coach, should be congratulated for representing Tri
County in such a positive way.
The Byron Center A.D. also called the team up before the competition began,
to offer condolences to them and our community for the loss of our former
principal, and teacher. The entire assembly (about 900 spectators) bowed their
heads for a moment of silence in honor and memory of Mark and Randy.

Michigan Gov. Jennifer M. Granholm has proclaimed October as

“Michigan Car-Deer Crash Safety Awareness Month.”
In Michigan in 2009 there were 61,486 reported car-deer crashes with 10 motorists killed and 1,648
injured. About 80 percent of all car-deer crashes take place on two-lane roads between dusk and dawn.
(Of the reported car-deer accidents Kent County is number one and Montcalm County is number five in
the state’s highest accident rate).
What can you do?
• Stay aware, awake, alert, and sober.
• Remember, safety belts are your best defense in any collision.
• Be alert for deer in spring and fall, especially at dawn and dusk.
• Heed deer crossing and speed limit signs, particularly on two-lane roads.
If a crash is unavoidable:
• Don’t swerve!
• Brake firmly
• Hold on to the steering wheel.
• Stay in your lane.
• Bring you vehicle to a controlled stop.
We at Hill’s Body Shop have noticed an increase in deer hits in the month of October through December
and a big surge directly after the time change, because more people are still on the road at sunset.
If you have had the misfortune of hitting a deer, Hill’s Body Shop, Inc. is here to help restore your ve-
hicle to its pre-accident condition. Your insurance company may refer you to one of their “preferred”
repair facilities. These body shops have an agreement with your insurance company to keep down the
cost of your vehicle repair in exchange for referrals. We believe it’s not in your best interest to take
your vehicle to these contracted repair shops. We believe safety and quality should come before cost,
whereas these “preferred” shops seem to put cost before quality and safety. We believe it to be unethical
to cheapen your vehicle repair to save your insurance company money. You’re our customer, not your
insurance company’s. Hill’s Body Shop, Inc. has always and will always provide the finest repairs avail-
able regardless of DRP contracts.
For more information about what you can do to avoid a car-deer accident and what to do if you do have
a car-deer accident, please visit our website http://www.hillsbodyshop.com/

Winter Itch
About this time of year a lot of people are miserable, not with the winter blues, or cabin fever, but with
Winter Itch. This is a condition of dry, itchy skin, usually with some small red bumps, sometimes little pustules.
Usually this is found on the upper arms, mid and upper back, chest and upper abdomen, and sometime on FAMILY HEALTH CARE
the legs.
Most of the time, it is related to a reduction of skin moisture and skin oil. It may also be aggravated by over
heating parts of the body by heavy clothing.
The solutions are fairly simple.
Run a humidifier in your home, especially in sleeping areas. Humidity should be between 45 and 65. There
should be a little condensation on the bottoms of the window panes. Not too much; that might ruin the
frames.
Drink adequate water (chlorine free). Most adults should have between 40-60 ounces per day. Coffee and
soda pop are not considered water. In fact, they are dehydrating and contribute to the problem.
Reduce the temperature of your bath or shower. Hot water removes some of the skin oils which are
needed to lubricate the skin. Also only soap and scrub the important areas of your body: hair, armpits,
bottom, and privates. Scrubbing the rest of the body removes much needed skin oils. Trang Phan Aaron Reames B. Robert Reames
Add oil to your diet. For adults, two tablespoons of olive oil every day is helpful (can PAC PAC PAC
be mixed in food) and Omega 3 (fish or flaxseed oil) 2000-4000 mg per day with food
in two or three doses are highly beneficial for skin, hair, joints, and arteries. Aaron Reames, PAC has returned to the Howard City
In stubborn cases, Vitamin E may be added. Natural Vitamin E (d-alpha tocopherol) 400- office, and is accepting appointments immediately.
800 units per day is good. Be careful with synthetic Vitamin E (l or dl-alpha tocopherol)
as it may add to the inflammation in your blood vessels.
