Ontario College Diploma Mechanical Technician

“The value of higher education is to make men aware of what was and what is, to incite them to probe
into what might be.”

Otto Keppler

The knowledge acquired in schools and colleges, I believe is not an education, but the means to it. It is this
belief that makes me ‘a student to the end of my days’: the obvious direction being curiosity towards
exploration. One of the memories of my childhood I deeply cherish is that of my first day in school. I distinctly
remember my eyes watering as my parents bade me good-bye leaving me in an alien environment. We were
made to draw pictures of familiar objects, my teacher recited rhymes in a soothing voice and by the end of the
day I began to love school. I was fortunate to have begun with a good early education and as I grew, my
interests and ability were inclined towards the physical nature of the universe. Science unravelled many a
mystery for me. Learning itself became key to my life. My respect for education and inclination towards applied
science drove me to opt for the stream of Non-Medical for Grade 11 and Grade 12.

I completed my Grade 12 in Non-Medical stream in the year 2017 with 69.4% marks. I performed very well in
my Grade 10 which I did from CBSE in the year 2015 scoring CGPA 8.0. To apply for international education,
I took IELTS on 4 November 2017 and scored 7.0 bands. I feel that Engineering is the area, which will give me
the opportunity to learn and explore how the fundamentals of science are applied to create technology for
practical and real purposes. Moreover, my innate strengths have always been creative abilities and the power of
imagination; which made me take up a discipline that allowed me to channel them in the best possible way.
Thus, Mechanical Engineering is a direct consequence of my convictions. I belong to a well-respected and
educated family. Their constant motivation groomed me to be a distinct academician. Different goals require
different paths, so now i have decided to pursue my further studies in abroad to have specialized knowledge.
After prolonging and conscientious research, I have chosen to study the program Ontario College Diploma
Mechanical Technician at St. Lawrence College, Ontario.

Canada is one of the best places in the world to pursue higher studies because it provides high class education
which is recognized globally. The high academic standard and quality education helps the students to perform
well in their chosen study areas. I believe that studying in Canada and gain an international qualification will
prove to be highly beneficial for my career goals. Canadian students are consistently ranked among the top
academic performers in reading, math, and science according to ongoing OECD and PISA research. Moreover,
students gain practical skills and hands-on training and generally have easy access to professors. Canada will
truly provide me an enriching educational experience.

Dealing with the mechanical work has been most exciting for me since my childhood. When I was a school
going boy, I used to examine the machines when they did not work properly and try to fix them. I used to do
this with deep concentration and try to co-relate my imagination with its working and principles. And I never
got bored doing this. That is why I have chosen this course so that I can get proper knowledge of machines and
make my career in Mechanical field. My intended program is being delivered at St. Lawrence College. The

college’s outstanding learning environment and small class sizes, affordability, required academic advising and
other support services stimulated me towards this college and my program.

Without mechanical engineering, we would not have things like engines, generators, elevators or even air
conditioning. While we might not even realize it, we most likely use something that has been mechanically
engineered every day. Mechanical engineering plays a critical role in manufactured technologies, from cars to
airplanes to refrigerators. It enables us to do many daily activities with ease, as it brings helpful technologies to
our modern society. It is one of the most important subdivisions of engineering, because without it, many of the
technologies we use every day would not be available.

My study program is 2 years in duration. The program will prepare me to read blueprints, diagrams and
schematic drawings to determine work procedures, install, align, dismantle and move stationary industrial
machinery and mechanical equipment, such as pumps, fans, tanks, conveyors, furnaces and generators
according to layout plans using hand and power tools. I will learn to operate hoisting and lifting devices to
position machinery and parts during the installation, set-up and repair of machinery. Some of the important
units which I will undertake in my program are Mechanical Maintenance, Welding and Fabrication,
Technical Drawing, Mechanical Drafting, Design Drafting and Estimating, Computer Numerical
Control, Computer Aided Design, Fluid Power and Manufacturing for Technicians. After going through
the program website and institutional website, I found that by taking undergraduate studies at the college, I
would be able to venture out into various subject domains and develop a strong sense of independence coupled
with responsibility and self-reliance. It would also help me to learn global standards in this field and become
aware of the worldwide competition, which I consider would be a great help for me to make a strong
contribution in the field of Mechanical Engineering.

The program with its commitment to foster intellectual excellence is remarkable and attractive to embark upon
an academic career. I will be prepared for career in a broad range of automated manufacturing facilities. I will
assist in preparing conventional and computer-assisted designs, drawings and specifications. Furthermore, I will
assist in inspection of mechanical installations and construction projects. I believe that my background and
qualification would make me a perfect fit for this program. I am confident of making a significant contribution
to live up to the reputation of the esteemed institution and make my mentors proud.
