Larsen & Tourbo limited generally referred to as L&T is an Indian multinational


conglomerate company situated in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. The founders of L&T
are Henning Holck Larsen and Soren Kristian Tourbo. The firm incorporates
a business of heavy engineering, construction, realty, manufacturing of capital goods,
information technology, and financial services. The corporate is one in all the most
important and most respected companies in India's private sector. the
corporate operates in three segments Engineering & Construction Segment, Electrical
& Electronics segment, and Machinery & Industrial Products et al. L&T Ranked
Asia's 2nd Most Sustainable Company within the Industrial Sector. L&T Defence is
closely involved within the development and construction of nuclear-powered
submarines. They also successfully manufactured Interceptor Boats, Floating Docks,
and Offshore Patrol Vessels. Our offerings also include Warships and Special
Platforms. Larsen and Toubro Limited were provided the Hyderabad Metro Rail
Project by Telangana government. They incorporated a Special Purpose Vehicle -
L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited to implement the Project on Design, Built,
Finance Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) basis. In January 2011, Chairman announced

SIX SIGMA:
Six Sigma could be a data-driven method for achieving perfect quality. The analysis
can concentrate on any element of production or service and have a
powerful emphasis on statistical analysis in design, manufacturing and customer-
oriented activities. It’s a way that has organizations tools to enhance the aptitude of
their business processes. This increase in performance and reduce in process variation
helps cause defect reduction and improvement in profits, employee morale, and
quality of products or services. The Six Sigma method follows an approach called
DMAIC which stands for Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control. 
SIX SIGMA IN LARSEN & TOUBRO:
Larsen & Toubro’s Electrical Business Group has implemented Six Sigma under the
leadership & guidance of President-Operations & Member of the board,
Mr.R.N.Mukhija. He constantly expressed the importance of Six Sigma for business
through ‘My word’ in EBG’s House magazine ‘The EDGE’. As a step towards
systematically institutionalizing lean actions, they started the lean project charter
Registration. This may help in regular reviews and sustaining the efforts yet as
achievements during this journey. This documentation process will usher in clarity of
thoughts. All projects, big or small, tangible or intangible, should be registered.
While they're on the brink of a replacement twelvemonth, it's the proper time for line
managers to line new challenging targets for the approaching year. This may enable
them to emerge stronger even during this current difficult situation. The Six Sigma
Implementation Model is implemented in L&T with a small variation at each Strategic
Business Unit (SBU).
Validation of Six Sigma Implementation Model:
Commitment by Senior Management: Senior Management is committed to 6 Sigma
implementation at L&T, EBG. A monthly review of the Six Sigma initiative is
finished at a senior level in ODSCM (Operating Division Steering Committee)
meeting. Best Six Sigma projects are presented by the Team Leader before of senior
management within the ODSCM meeting.
Awareness programs: A six sigma awareness program was conducted throughout
SBU when Six Sigma implementation started. For brand spanking new employees, the
Six Sigma Yellow belt program is conducted.
Readiness assessment: Readiness assessment was done through an inside survey. The
firm conducts a survey and analyze the result.
External Consultant Appointment: Consultancy from the Indian Statistical Institute
was hired during the implementation phase.
Gap Analysis: Gap analysis has done while selecting projects in each area. For this
mainly they use present sigma level and current state value stream mapping.
Formation of Implementation Strategy: Implementation strategy formed
considering an organization’s culture & structure. Customer and Business needs
considered while selecting projects.
