Basically, CDS, as for my research stands for Concept Design Services, a houseware design
company that were in to business to consumer business through the use of the product name
“Focus”, now they have moved from business to consumer business or business to business format.
They have tied up with many design house and they give the design which they manufacture and
then distribute to customer. They also moved from manufacturing focus product to high-quality stylish
home wares with a high design value.
Now that I’m done making a precise background with regards to CDS, it’s time to answer the
questions being asked.
1. Why is operations management important in CDS?
Operations Management is one of the critical aspects at the operational and strategic level,
which CDS maintains in order to have th higher level of income and good reputation of the business.
This could also help to influence the new product development that helps to introduce wide –range of
products offered by the enterprise to it’s customers. At the end, this woud lead to a substantial
increase in the levels of growth along with the profits earned by CDS.
Strategic-long term and systematic planning or action will help to resolve the issues relating to
sales forecast since this requires a strategic planning to gain more profit in the future. Now, being
distinguished as Europes best homeware design company, they also encounter lots of issues, this led
to high levels of problem between within the organization thereby leading to disruption amongst the
manufacturing & production process. With the implementation of operations management, the sales
forecast shall be done in an accurate manner. Better utilization of the resources along with better
services provided to the customers will lead to reduction in the overall cost of production.

2. What would you recommend if they asked you to advice them in improving their
operations?
Knowing that the Concept Design Service is now famous for its strategic and tactical
operations, there are certain areas that needs an improvement. Generally, in some cases, CDS
moves as if there were only one department moving, so to give an advice, first is the relationship
between its designers and other parts of the company (such as the manufacturing and distribution).
Designers actually had a difficulty in spending enough time on the area of the company to have
collaboration with the manufacturing department. If they actually made some in depth understanding
in the manufacturing processes they were able to get a real idea and could implement this knowledge
into their designing activities, in other words, both departments should have a better collaboration.
