Raindance Film Festival

I have chosen to complete my final major project as a submission for the Raindance Film Festival.

Raindance is a film festival aimed at UK and international film makers. The festival is the UKs largest
independent film festival and focuses on showcasing the best of new cinema.

While working on Unit 6 we were given a brief and criteria from Raindance, meaning I am familiar
with the festivals expectations and already understand their requests. The festival accepts short
films under 45 minutes and is open to all genres. I felt these requirements suited my goals for my
final major project best so Raindance would be the most appropriate choice of client.

There are multiple categories within the festival, and these include:

• Narrative Feature
• Documentary Feature
• Narrative Short
• Documentary Short
• Animation Short
• Music Video
• Queer (Feature)
• And Virtual and Augmented Reality Experiences

For my FMP I plan to produce a Narrative Short that is between 6 – 8 minutes long. The festival pay
attention to the quality of narrative and production values, so I will ensure I pay attention to these
elements during my pre-production stages.

The earliest deadline for Raindance Film Festival is 24th April, however I have planned to have my
final edit completed by 18th May. The latest deadline for the festival is 6th July, which I am confident I
can meet as my final UAL deadline is 5th June and therefore all of my work will be completed by this
date. As the deadlines for Raindance get later the submission fee’s increase, meaning the submission
fee for 5th June will be £35.
