Final Idea
For my final major project I have decided to produce a short narrative film. The
main topic of the film will be ‘obsession’.
I plan to produce a piece of work that is between 6-8 minutes long and follows
a teenage girl as she becomes obsessed with her classmate. The film will focus
predominantly on the main character, but I hope to include a third character
who works as her best friend and someone who provides the audience with a
second point of view.
I will cast the classmate over whom she obsesses but the audience will only see
them as the main character does, meaning their view of the classmate is
biased and altered to fit her reality.
My main goal for the piece is to lead the audience to believe that the pair do
know one another and create a reality as realistic as possible to communicate
this idea. However, at the end I will reveal the true nature of their relationship,
which is that they have never met.
My ideas and aims for the production may change as I expand on my research
and develop the idea as a whole.

Target audience
My target audience for this production is ages 16-24 though I feel that with my
topic of obsession I may be able to reach a wider target audience. I hope for
my short film to appeal to everyone who is interest in or relates to the topic.
Overall, I will reflect my target audience within my casting choice. I hope to
find an actor between the ages of 17-20 to play my main character as I feel
they will be able to communicate my message well while portraying the image
of a school student.
By having an actor in their late teens I will also be able to appeal to the higher
end of my target audience as they will be able to recognise themselves within
the actor.
Rules and regulations
There are no set rules I am required to follow for the Raindance Film Festival.
All short films must be under 45 minutes, which I will be able to conform to as I
plan to produce a short that is between 6-8 minutes.
My production must also have been completed after 1st January 2019, in order
for my work to be eligible for the competition.
Throughout Unit 8 I must follow the rules and regulations of my college and
exam board. These are displayed below. The required deadlines can be found
in my production schedule.
