Q. In broader context of Supply Chain Management where does operations and

logistics lie, support your argument in recent light of corona virus ?
Ans: Supply chain is a network between a company and its suppliers that help
to produce a new product and deliver the final product to the required customer.
The network consists of information , resources, different activities, people and
entities. It also elaborates the steps that are involved in between product/service
point of production till point of consumption that is the final customer.
Supply chain management is managing all the activities of supply chain in a
way that the customer value is maximized and costs are lowered so the
company can gain a competitive advantage.
Operations include all the processes that are involved in formation of a product
or service. From raw material till the final product is created operations lie.
Logistics is a part of supply chain that is responsible for forward and reverse
flow of people material inventory and information. It controls the efficient,
effective forward and reverse flow and storage of goods, services and related
information between the point of origin and the point of consumption in order to
meet customers' requirements.
The Corona Virus in China has negatively affected its economy as well as the
operations and logistics of china supply chains. Transport restrictions have been
imposed among cities to tackle the outbreak of corona virus. There are severe
disruptions to inbound and outbound air cargo shipments, trucking and rail
cargo services as well. Due to regional lockdown the logistics operation that
depend on highway to carry goods are facing delays. Ships have been held back
from calling in Wuhan to control the outbreak. Companies have stopped their
production and this could have a major impact on automotive, pharmaceutical
and medical supplies, and high-tech manufacturing for optoelectronics and
semiconductors. Due to export restrictions china cannot perform its outbound
logistical activities that can have a negative impact on economy. Producers are
guided to stop their production till 9 feb. Basic necessities like food , cloth and
medicine are being delayed due to lockdowns in china. As Chinese are
international traders so this situation can also have an impact on overall world’s
supply chains.305 have been already killed and currently they are trying to
control the virus with entry and exit barriers to country.
