Summary
Ever since I was a young kid, I have had a deep interest in anything relating to space. My

room when I was three years old until about age fifteen was decorated with planets, stars, space

posters and action figures. For my senior project, I decided to research and learn more about

space exploration. I selected this topic because I have always had a keen interest with space and

it is a topic that is typically non political. I will organize my paper using the following sections

presently what has space exploration gotten us, potential of space exploration (new planets,

moons), laws and regulations of space exploration, other countries space program, funding for

NASA or should space programs be privatized.

For my project, I plan on hosting a seminar with a guest speaker who specializes in the

field of astronomy (astronaut or college professor or scientist from NASA Langley or someone

from a private space corporation). I will plan on hosting the event if it can be approved at the

Plaza Middle School Planetarium. I would introduce my topic and go through the different

components within my paper. I would try and ask the audience some questions before the

speaker and whoever answered the question correctly will receive a prize. There would be a

small exhibit then afterwards, and I would have a speaker, and then following the speaker have

the planetarium in action. If the planetarium can not be approved, I will contact the recreation

centers and libraries to see if we can acquire a room to host a speaker. The same idea would

apply if the planetarium can not be approved. There would be an exhibit followed by a guest

speaker.

The goal of this project is to learn as much as possible and to teach others with not only a

guest speaker, but also provide an interactive exhibit that will provide a hands on learning

experience. For the evaluation I plan on creating a video of people who attended my event and
asking individuals about their experience. My project will take place second semester and

hopefully at the Plaza Middle School Planetarium. I have asked Mr. Knoche to serve as my

consultant for this project.

 C. Marketing Plan/ Audience

My target audience will be high school students in astronomy class and anyone who has a slight

interest in astronomy. I will also reach out to Lynnhaven Middle School and Plaza Middle School

Earth Science teachers to see if they would be willing to offer extra credit to their students. I

specifically need students to attend because I am targeting students who are in astronomy courses

or who have an interest in astronomy. The students will benefit because anyone in an astronomy

course will receive an extra credit in their class. If somebody is not a student, but express an

interest in astronomy, they will learn a new something new about space exploration. I will get

approval from school administration to post flyers advertising my event in First Colonial and I

will also have word of mouth. Lastly, I will post my event to social media to inform more people

of my event.

F. Project Justification

This will be a quality project because this is a topic that I am very interested in, and I will put my

all in this project. This project will teach me different perspectives, and I will learn new material

teaching me about space exploration. This will be a challenge for me because I have never

arranged an event. This will require me to reach out to various community professionals

including teachers, and different students in the Hampton Roads area. I hope anyone who attends

my event learns something new they never knew or gets to see something in the exhibit. This is

worth my time because this is a topic I am strongly interested in and I look forward to others

learning from attending my event.

G. Project- Paper Connection

 Since my paper is based on space exploration and my event I plan on hosting will be

about space exploration. During my event I will discuss the different areas I researched

which includes what has space exploration gotten us, potential of space exploration (new

planets, moons), laws and regulations of space exploration, other countries space

program, funding for NASA or should space programs be privatized. After I am done

explaining the various parts of my paper, the speaker (depending on who the speaker is

and their area of expertise in astronomy) will provide an expert's analysis on a certain

topic of my paper.

H. Academic Honesty

I understand that any academic dishonesty by me on any part of the project/paper will result in

failure of the Senior Project and forfeiture of the Legal Studies Seal on my High School

diploma.
