YOUR OWN FOOD?
GIY Youghal
GIY (Grow it Yourself) networks aim to take the 'self ' out of self
sufficiency by getting people who are interested in growing their
own food together on a regular basis to talk, learn from each other
and exchange tips, produce and war stories. GIY activities
include monthly meetings, talks and demos; garden visits, seed
and seedling swaps; produce bartering, mentor panels and grow-
er's meitheals.
Meetings are free and open to people who are growing at all lev-

my grandfather particularly enjoyed! Hospitality is a way of

Trees are decorated with a star or an angel on top. Children
put a stocking (or a pillowcase!) at the bottom of their beds
for Santa Claus. I remember waking up on Christmas morn-

brother's bedroom. Gifts usually include an apple, an orange
or tangerine, and chocolate coins. My mother recalls receiv-

years. This was not given for bad behavior but simply
because there was nothing else.

Safety first when buying toys Footwear Fitting Specialists
"What should I look out for when buying toys?"There are various
safety regulations about toys sold in the EU. These offer some
protection to consumers - and to the children who will be using
these products - but remember that safety
standards alone can't guarantee the
safe use of toys. That's where com-
mon sense comes into play. Carefully
examine any toy you buy. Bear in
mind that a gift to an older child can
sometimes prove lethal in the hands
of a smaller child. Always respect

Youghal Chamber of Commerce
Launch 'Shop Local' campaign
'SHOP LOCAL,' is the message that Youghal Chamber is trying to
instill in residents of the town in a bid to generate jobs and busi-
ness in the area.
The Chamber has launched their new Shop Local campaign which
highlights the reasons for supporting local business in the run up
to Christmas.
If we all make an effort to support our own business community,
more good things will happen to the town where we live.
They include protecting local jobs and creating new ones,
strengthening the local economy and building community spirit as
well as the future of Youghal.
The Chamber has created a poster reminding citizens of the town
to support their shops. The message will be on display throughout
the town over the coming weeks. People are being encouraged to
keep whatever money they can spend in their own home town.
Youghal is a great retail town - you can literally get everything you
need in Youghal. There are also retailers to suit every type of cus-
tomer - local producers, traditional family businesses, neighbor-
hood stores that stock national and international brands. It's all
available in Youghal.
The Retail sector in Youghal is also a massive employer, think of
all the shops you know and when you start adding up the numbers
of staff you realise that retail is one of the major employers here in
the town. This makes it all the more important for us to support
jobs by supporting local retailers.
CHRISTMAS SHOPPING IN YOUGHAL
When you spend money locally it has a big impact, Youghal
shops employ local people who spend their wages locally in VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR
other shops and businesses which pays more wages and so
the money keeps flowing around the local economy.
